My Bucket List

I am the type that likes to be prepared, make lists, have goals. It is always a choice to enjoy life, which is far more than genealogy. This posting is very personal. The ways in which I overcome may be just the hint to help you deal with your own issues.  We all need significance, to be affirmed. This list clears the air ahead, no matter what the limitations.

MY BUCKET LIST

A:  Private and Legal Matters

  1. Updating, or preparing a will, naming an executor to manage my estate, and listing the disbursement of any assets.

  1. Gathering all legal papers, including will, that my executor will need to have my will probated, and pay all outstanding bills, and gather income from all sources, like death benefit, insurance.

  1. Purchase of cemetery plot(s) and understanding of rules governing my burial location. Possibly planting little garden at site in preparation.

  1. Purchase of tombstone and prepare design of same. Its setup on my burial plot.

  1. Preparation of Power of Attorney for my care and finances. Who will have decision making authority when I can not do it myself?

  1. Preparing my obituary in draft form for publication after death. Gather photos.

  1. A Memorial Service/Funeral: preparing a disc of photos and background music for it. Choosing other songs and artifacts to reflect interests. Recommending minister, service location. Preparing the program in draft form and buying sheets for printing. Other details.

Enjoying Life: Things I Now Want to Do

  1. Finish A Memorial Garden at My Gravesite

10. Preserving My Family History for many years to come through various publications, website, other databases.

11. Clearing all debts of the past with good interest for any owed.

12. Healing the emotional wounds of the past by forgiving and seeking forgiveness of all who may have been hurt by me.

  1. Getting rid of junk, things that don’t work, or are not needed for my current life. Choosing only quality items for those needing replacement.

  1. Reducing the stress in my life. Setting up automatic replies on computer for any incoming emails until I can address them at a slower pace. Having a daily routine for the mornings Monday to Friday but lighter activities for evenings, and weekends. Light structure, instead of fast-passed demands draining my energy.

 

15. Finding a focus on which to base activities that give me the most enjoyment. Changing that, if needed, or alternating interests at various times of the year to maintain interest. Less time on things that no longer matter.

 

16. Educating myself to keep learning and stimulating my brain, while improving my qualifications.

 

17.  Light exercise three times a week, especially walking and getting out of doors in nice weather. Setting realistic goals.

 

18. Reaching and maintaining a best weight for my age and ability and eating a healthy diet to maintain that.

19. Looking for ways every day to encourage and help someone else.

 

20. Trips for pleasure and other reasons. Lots of them, having new adventures and visiting family members. Building friendships and making new ones.

 

21. Enjoying fellowship of like-minded folk for inner, spiritual growth. Reading the Bible through every year and studying its passages. Deep reflection and prayer. Worship of God.

 

22. Considering volunteering in some capacity,  using my skills and experiences to bring help to those who are struggling or needing relief. Local or international.
