Introduction

This is the online library of the genealogy collection and other interests of Norma Gillespie, a retired  genealogist, who lives in Ontario, Canada. 

The physical library in which the collection was housed,  is  now closed to visitors, and all records, except the Archived files, are being copied to this website.  

This office no longer offers professional genealogy services. However, we continue to encourage family history research by answering inquiries,  and putting people together who share the same family focus. 

What personal data we collect and why we collect it:

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent string to  block spam attacks,  and identify genuine, genealogy inquiries and comments. Any comments by a visitor that includes a link to a website other than a family history one, is not posted. 

Source of Records

All family history records provided on this site are about deceased persons.  Most of these Gillespie records were acquired over a life-time  from physical  libraries  containing genealogy collections, and  from online public domain websites. This collection is for personal research and study,  and is now presented to preserve history and help those seeking their own family history roots.  

All genealogy records presented on this website have been retyped one by one, so that someone else’s presentation is not affected. Sources for most of the records have been given at the bottom of pages as a guide for the visitor and as free advertising for these sites. Some sources are no longer available,  as even libraries have closed, or public databases withdrawn into privacy for their own reasons. 

Different countries have different rules in regards to the release of vital statistics records  which may differ with rules in North America, especially Canada. Some overseas records on public sites allow personal information about living persons. Most dates on those records  have been blocked  on this site  and a notation made with the record.  It is very difficult to determine the status of the people involved in these public records and what dates to use as a cut-off point,  because they  do not follow a consistent rule. This office has no way of knowing if that person is deceased or not.

Obituaries list the names of living relatives of the person who has died, sometimes with their town of residence. This office makes no attempt to contact any persons involved–outside our own personal relatives and friends–although an expressions of sympathy and concern is herein provided. 

 Official genealogy records may themselves be inaccurate because it depended on the persons providing the information. No attempt has been made to verify the information in any of these documents or on other websites. Spelling of records is left exactly as presented, even if not commonly used that way today or spelling typos were made by the previous copier.

At the  login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me“, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

We do not approve or support any advertising associated with embedded content,  which is often unknown to us. None of the information and records or postings provided on this site itself has embedded content. It is only through links to other websites that embedded content may occur. 

These other websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account logged in to that website. 

We do not monitor any of your activities except on our own site, and in regards to only analytic reports as follows:  

Analytics

Your visit is monitored by Google Analytics that identifies  the county of origin, type of technology used, listing of pages that you visit, length of time of visit and live time feed. No personal identification is revealed.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment  or have past correspondence with this office, those records are retained  according to office policy, usually indefinitely. No one else sees them now except the Administrator,   

The Archives section of the Library, which holds print and other types of genealogy records by others, is no longer available for viewing by the general public. Current researchers wanting  their Gillespie or descendant family history records protected may request it added to the Archives.

Those individuals with an Archived file may update their file and are encouraged to do so for accuracy of content for future generations. This is the most protected section of this library, and its future preservation is being carefully evaluated.  

The work of other researchers is not used in this  online library unless duplicate copies of records were found independently,  or permission given to the Administrator.  

What rights you have over your data:

You can  request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for legal, or security purpose. 

We never sell your information to anyone  We do not give  out  archived correspondence,  except in very limited, special circumstances,  especially after the researcher has died.   If someone wants to contact you through our office, we will notify both parties by email, if we can. 

Future Focus

The genealogy section of this website will  remain completely separate from a posting of a variety of personal interests by the author.  

The latest technological changes and international laws regarding websites takes considerable time to learn and apply. The content of this website, other than family history records, changes from time to time, with older content often withdraw into privacy.   

Although a public forum has not been provided for discussion,  you may forward your  comments to the Administrator through the Contact Form.
