While I am trying to find a video for this first piece,  here are the words of my favourite song this year, and the yearning of my heart.

IF I CAN HELP SOMEBODY

If I can help somebody, as I pass along,

If I can cheer somebody with a word, or song;

If I can show somebody he is travelling wrong,

Then  my living shall not be in vain!

Chorus:

Then my living shall not be in vain,

Oh, my living shall not be in vain;

If I can help somebody, as I pass along,

Then my living shall not be in vain!

If I can do my duty as a Christian aught,

If I can bring salvation to a world overwrought;

If I can spread love’s message, as the Master taught,

Then my living shall not be in vain!

Easter Celebration

Feeling down, discouraged and needing encouragement?  Here is a man standing in the street in Holland singing for a donation. He had been a baker for 35 years, longing to be an opera singer, so sang to his clients, but now the job was gone.  He entered a singing contest later, something like America’s Got Talent. He won, and began a recording contract. May  his return to that street to sing to the people passing by touch you deeply, as it does me,  and lift us both up to walk with greater humility, courage and appreciation.

Gillespie Musicians & Composers

For those of you who have some understanding of playing the piano, or even another instrument,  let me show you the principles behind creating tunes in major keys without written music.  It helps to have the tune in your head.  Let me provide a simple overview in print while I prepare videos for streaming.  Some of you may have heard this term:

Nanci & Norma from Nepal

About 1969/70 – Canadian Norma Gillespie with Nanci Tryggestad of New Zealand (now of Nebraska) sing a medley of Christian songs of the 1960s. We played an accordion and guitar to accompany ourselves.  Thanks old friend. A recording over 50 years ago. The Scripture songs are from the King James Version of the Bible.  Just preserving this memory so it is not lost.

Song #1

Many folk talk about Heaven,

And say they’re going there some day;

But you can’t tell by the way they live,

That they’re heading that way.

So you gotta be kinda careful,

Of the things you say and do,

Cause somebody’s home in Heaven may

Depend on you.

Chorus:

Heaven is a wonderful place,

Filled with glory and grace;

I want to see my Saviour’s face,

Heaven is a wonderful place……..

But until then, my heart will go on singing,

Until then with joy I’ll carry on,

Until the day, my eyes behold the City,

Until the day, God calls me Home.

Song #2

Upon the cross of Calvary, where Jesus died for me,

He gave His life a ransom, from sin to set me free;

I want the world to know, I’m as thankful as can be

To have this love of Jesus, abiding in me.

Chorus:

I have the love of Jesus, down in my heart,

Down in my heart, down in my heart;

I know the love of Jesus, will not depart,

For He’s living down deep in my heart.

Whenever you are tempted to live a life of sin,

Remember He is watching, do not dishonour Him;

Just ask the Lord above, for the strength to see you through,

And then this love of Jesus, will abide in you.

Chorus:

I have the love of Jesus, down in my heart,

Down in my heart, down in my heart;

I know the love of Jesus, will not depart

For He’s living down deep in my heart.

Song #3

He’s always there, when things go wrong,

He’s always there, when my hope is gone;

He lifts me up, when I’m in prayer,

He’s never gone when I’m alone;

He’s always there.

He’s up in the mountains, and He’s down in the sea,

He fills the heaven  and He lives in me;

He lifts me up, when I’m in prayer;

He’s never gone when I’m alone,

He’s always there.

Song #4

Ten unclean and no where to go,

Ten men cleansed as clean as snow;

One returned to give God thanks,

But nine went away.

Ten men lepers in a Hebrew town

Ten  cried, Lord, won’t you please come down!

No one came until one fine day,

When Jesus of Nazareth passed that way.

Chorus

Ten unclean and no where to go,

Ten men cleansed as clean as snow;

One returned to give God thanks,

But nine went away.

Lord make me clean, was their single cry,

See how the whole world passes us by;

No man’s home will take us in,

Then Christ bent down and touched their skin

Like  a tree when its buds come true

Or a patch of spring that is fresh and new;

Christ restored the ones defiled

Then gave them the flesh of a newborn child.

Chorus

Ten unclean and no where to go,

Ten men cleansed as clean as snow;

One returned to give God thanks,

But nine went away.

God gives gifts to us every day.

Favours his people in every way,

Hope restored and pain relieved,

Do you ever give thanks for a gift received?

Thank you, Lord, for the summer sun,

For fun and songs and good deeds done,

For faith and family and loving friends,

For the day that begins, and  night that ends.

Ten unclean and no where to go,

Ten men cleansed as clean as snow;

One returned to give God thanks,

But nine went away.

Song #5

Psalm 50:23; Micah 6:8

Whosoever offereth praise glorifieth Me,

Whosoever offereth praise glorifieth Me,

And to him that  ordereth his conversation alright,

Will I show the salvation of God.

He has showed thee of man, what is good,

And what does the LORD require of thee,

But to do justly and to love mercy

And to walk humbly with thy God

Song #6

Psalm 34: 1-4

I will bless the Lord at all times

His praise shall continually be in my mouth;

My soul shall make her boast in Thee, LORD

The humble shall hear thereof and be glad;

Oh, magnify the LORD with me,

And let us exhault His Name together;

I sought the LORD, and He heard me

And delivered me from all my fears.

Song # 7

Philippians 4: 4, 5;     Philippians 3: 13, 14

Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say, Rejoice!

Let your moderation be known unto all men

The Lord is at hand.

Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say, Rejoice.

Let your moderation be known unto all men

The Lord is at hand……

This one thing I do, this one thing I do,

Forgetting those things which are behind

And reaching forth unto those things which are before,

I press towards  the mark, for the prize

Of the high calling of God,  in Christ Jesus

Song # 8

In green pastures feeding, by His cool waters lie,

Soft in the evening walked my Lord and I,

All the sheep of His pasture,  fare so wondrously fine,

His sheep am I.

Chorus

Waters cool, (in the valley) pastures green (on the mountain)

In the evening (in the evening) walked my Lord and I,

Dark the way,(in the valley)  rough the way (on the mountain),

Step by step (step by step) my Lord and I……

According to Thy loving kindness, Father

Have mercy on my sinful, wretched soul;

Make me to know once more Thy joy and gladness,

Blot out my sin, oh cleanse and make me whole.

I humbly now acknowledge my transgression

Against the only Father is my sin;

Restore to me the joy of Thy salvation,

Oh  purify my life, without within….. without, within.

A contrite heart I offer Thee, dear Father,

Oh hide Thy face from all my sin,  I pray,

According to Thy tender love and mercy,

Oh pardon, Lord,  this soul that went astray.

I humbly now acknowledge my transgression,

Against the only Father is my sin;

Restore to me the joy of Thy salvation,

Oh  purify my life, without, within.

Song #9

That He is God, be still and know

Though storm-swept be thy weary soul;

Thy deepest grief to Him is woe

And over all He has control.

Chorus

Be still and know,  be still and know,

That He is God, be still and know;

He sees and feels thy deepest woe,

That He is God be still and know.

Though shadows roar surround me still,

Thou dark and rugged be Thy way;

Know Thou for Thee a Father’s will

Doth render all things day by day.

Be still and know, be still and know

That He is God, be still and know;

He sees and feels thy deepest woe,

That He is God, be still and know.

No depth of storm, nor strength of gale

Can move me from my place secure;

His power over thee shall prevail

My Father’s love doth still  endure.

Be still and know, be still and know

That He is God, be still and know,

He sees and heals thy deepest woe

That He is God, be still and know…

That He is God, be still and know,
