Marjorie Raymer Gillespie, March 28, 1919 – January 20, 2006. (nee Grieve). Born on March 28th, 1919 in Calgary. Passed away at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Victoria on January 20, 2006 after a brief illness. Predeceased by husband Charlie in 1984 and sister Nora Naylor in 2003. Survived by daughter Kathleen, granddaughter Tracy and great-grandsons Joshua and Shaun. She moved to Vancouver with her mother in 1931. She met Charlie up Hollyburn Mountain in 1937 and married in 1942. Their jewellry business, Buscombe & Gillespie was successful until Marjorie retired in 1999. A service of remembrance was held on Saturday January 28th, at 2:00 p.m. at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial St., Burnaby. Mia Gillespie August 31, 1967 – December 7, 2003. Mia was born August 31, 1967 in Frederickton, NB. She and her family moved to Vancouver in 1970. She will be remembered for her fire, her compassion, her keen insightful wit and a real beauty few possess inside and out. After a brave battle with multiple health problems she passed away peacefully on December 7, 2003. She leaves behind a loving mother Ingrid; her brother Sean; her Aunt Mary; and soulmate Roland; and many friends. A memorial service was held at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel, 1835 East Hastings Street, Vancouver on December 16, 2003 at 3 pm. Celebration of her life afterwards.

Phylis Lois Gillespie April 11, 1939 – Jan 9, 2020 It is with great sadness that we are announcing the passing of Phylis Lois Gillespie. Phylis passed away peacefully after a quick battle with lung cancer on January 09, 2020 at the Laurel Place Hospice. Phylis is survived by her husband William, son Scott (his wife Janette and son Federico), daughter Kimberly (her husband Jarrod and daughter Jordyn) and sister Margaret. Phylis will be dearly missed by her extended family and many friends. A celebration of life will held in the springtime. Roberta Dolores Gillespie (nee Houston), passed away at Anjou House, Vernon, BC on October 5, 2004 age 89. She was born in Somerville, Texas on March 2, 1915, Dolores was the second youngest of seven children. After graduation from school in 1933, she travelled to China to visit family, and it was during this visit that she met and later married Sholto Gillespie from Victoria, B.C. Following the outbreak of WWII, the family, that by then included two children, relocated to the Okanagan where Dolores had resided ever since. The Gillespies moved to Vernon in 1949 where Dolores became a supportive member of Trinity United Church and remained so for more than fifty years. She was also an active volunteer in the community and only recently had to curtail her commitments due to declining health. Dolores was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sholto (“G”), in 1966 and her only son, Robert (Mort) in 1991, as well as her parents, three brothers, and two sisters in Texas. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Murray Thom, Lake Country; Mary and Dale Winskowski, Vernon; and her brother William Houston, Brenham, Texas. She will be missed by daughters-in-law Diane Gillespie and Angie Gillespie. “Nunnie” will also be fondly remembered by grandchildren Hamish (Maureen), Stuart, and Ian (Jennifer) Thom, Sheilagh (Matt) Wubs, Tanya (Jess) Parsonage, Robyn (Mike) Winskowski, and Christine Gillespie. Also surviving are great grandchildren Kaija, Georgia, Mexx, Euan, Morgan, and Zoë Thom, and Connor and Emma Wubs. A Service of Remembrance was held at Trinity United Church on Tuesday, October 12th at 2:00 pm. Vernon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Ronald Irvine Gillespie, Nov 2, 1948 – Sept 3, 2021. It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Ronald Irvine Gillespie, aged 73. He passed peacefully at Peace Arch Hospital, surrounded by family. Born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, to Jack and Lillian Gillespie. He was one of four siblings; Lois, Betty-Anne, and Kevin. He graduated in 1964 from Portage Collegiate and quickly began years of pursuing a hockey career, playing for, among many teams, the Brandon Wheat Kings. Working through a number of professions in his life, he found his calling as a salesman in the forestry industry. Ron moved to Vancouver and eventually started his own business, Gillespie Sales. Ron traveled the world forging a name for himself, building strong relationships, and providing a livelihood for his family. Later in life he also realized a dream of being a restaurant owner with Ronnie G’s, servicing White Rock at 5 Corners for years. In Vancouver, he met his eventual wife Lila at the Cambridge Club. With Lila, he began a family; being married in 1987 and having 3 children; Codie, Jazmin, and Brandon. Raising them in Panorama Ridge, Surrey. As well as his 3 children, Ron had 2 grandchildren, Meela and Shania.

Ronald Wayne Gillespie (Ron) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Wayne Gillespie, born May 2, 1942 in Vancouver. Ron passed away peacefully on March 24, 2022 in Chilliwack, after a long battle with leukemia. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 34 years and 7 children: Shannon (Don) Hunt, Doug Raines, Darren (Dina) Smaill, Bill (Lisa) Gillespie, Trevor Smaill, Danny (Dominique) Gillespie, and Robyn Smaill. He also loved his 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren very much. Ron grew up in Vancouver, graduating from King Edward High School. He later moved his family to Coquitlam and then North Vancouver before retiring to Chilliwack. Ron worked on the railroad for over 37 years, finishing as a yard master and he loved everything about trains. Ron also loved travelling; watching sports, especially football; and spending time with his family. Ron was a very involved dad and coached football and baseball.

Sonya Gillespie, February 17, 1923 – March 7, 2016. After a long and rewarding life journey, Sonia Gillespie passed away peacefully on March 7, 2016, at her home in Vancouver. Born near Kyiv, UKRAINE, February 17, 1923, to Olga and Xenofont Dzubin, the oldest of four children, Sonia emigrated to Canada with her mother in 1928. She is predeceased by her parents, Olga and Xenofont, half-brother, William, brother, Peter, sister, Emma, and husbands, Percy (in 1954) and Michael (in 2001. She is survived by her sons, Robert (Charlotte) of Kamloops, Zubin (Kim) of Belleville, Ontario, and John (Angela) of Laguna Beach, California, plus grandchildren, Melissa, Chad, Erin, Dylan, Theo, and Astrid. She also leaves to mourn her brother, Alex of Saskatoon of Saskatoon.
A creative, goal-oriented person, who enjoyed family, career, and the outdoors, Sonia graduated from U.B.C. in 1976 with a B.Sc in Nursing and thrived in her career as a Community Health Nurse. After reluctantly retiring in 1986, Sonia filled her days with golf, bridge, lectures, and friends. With her ever upbeat attitude and boundless energy, she was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. At her home in Vancouver, Sonia raised snow drops as a token reminder of her birthplace and grandmother. At her request, Sonia’s remains have been donated to the U.B.C. Department of Anatomy.
A Celebration of Life was held at McCleery Golf Course Clubhouse (7188 MacDonald St., Vancouver) on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Miss Verna Gillespie, passed away at Royal Columbian Hospital on Sunday, July 6, 2003 at the age of 91 years with her sister Clara at her side. Verna will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Michelle; sister Clara; granddaughters, Sylvia and Cheryl; niece Barbara and the rest of her extended family whose lives she has enriched over the years. During her final years, Verna Grace Gillespie was lovingly cared for with gentleness and patience by Iluminada “Lulu” de Castro, Jeff de Castro and Consuelo Felipe. “Miss Gillespie”, as she was known by her students and fellow teachers, has also touched the lives of many from Capitol Hill School. A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at 11:00 am from the Salvation Army, Metrotown Citadel, 6125 Nelson Avenue, Burnaby. Majors Don and Elizabeth Grad officiated. W. L. Gillespie, October 2, 1914 – June 7, 2004. ‘Gil’ passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 89 on June 7, 2004 at the home of his eldest son. Beloved husband of the late Anne Gillespie, Gil will be missed by his family: his sons Brian, David and Michael; his daughters-in-law Beverley and Marilyn: his grandchildren Joanne, Patrick, Rebecca and Casey Anne; the in-law spouses George, Paula and Allan; his great-grandchildren Courtney, Jayke, Kristin and Jenna; his brother Bob and sister-in-law Betty and niece and nephews in Ontario. Gil was not only a father, a mentor and best friend to his sons. He also contributed greatly to the lives of many others both personally and professionally. Gil was born in Toronto on October 2, 1914. He had a distinguished RCAF career spanning 25 years in Europe and Canada before retiring in 1964 with the rank of Group Captain. He remained active in the Air Force Officers’ Association. From 1968 to 1980 he was the secretary manager of the Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club. During his tenure he was the President of the B.C. Dogwood Chapter of the Club Managers’ Association of America (CMAA) and was the Vice President of the International C.M.A.A. Gil was an avid photographer, MAC computer enthusiast and golfer. He contributed many volunteer hours to numerous service organizations. The family thanks the Vancouver Hospital Renal and Palliative Care teams and the Fraser Health Authority Home Care Nursing Program for their care and support. A celebration of Gil’s life washeld at #406 – 5411 Vine Street, Vancouver, from 2 – 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 13 for family and friends. Bill was born on August 24th, 1969 in Ottawa Ontario and was a beloved son to Ron and Catherine Gillespie a father to Ryan and brother to Shannon, Doug and Danny. Rihanna, and Erin, and Tony.
Bill had a heart of gold and he would drop anything to help anyone. He loved to go camping and being on the water he had a great sense of humour and telling jokes. Bill will be remembered for his kind and generous heart and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dr. Barry Gillespie LUCAS, Professor Emeritus, passed away on December 10, 2013 at 81 years. He was predeceased by his father William “Bill” and his mother Dorothy “Dolly” Lucas. Barry is lovingly remembered by his wife Lorna; three daughters Colleen Lucas (Ken Read), Noreen Foreman (Kent), Noelle Lucas; and thirteen grandchildren. He was born in Victoria, BC on September 6, 1932. Barry graduated from Vancouver’s Lord Byng High School in 1950. He attended Normal School in 1955 and taught in Victoria’s public school system for ten years. Barry married Lorna (Tweedhope) on September 1,1959. Always modest, Barry was a brilliant intellectual and a passionate educator. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1963 at the University of British Columbia; his Master’s degree at Western Washington University in 1967 and Doctorate in Educational Administration at the University of Michigan in 1971. Barry taught at St John’s University, New York from 1971-1973; McGill University in Montreal, 1973-1977; and at the University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon, 1978-1990. Retiring to Victoria, Barry and Lorna traveled extensively tracing family genealogy, writing memoirs, and riding BMW motorcycles. Private celebration of life occurred later.

Arrangements by First Memorial Funeral Services. “We love you, Grandma.” SANKEY- Jeanie Gillespie, in her 92nd year. Passed away in Lions Gate Hospital on May 18, 1998 after a lengthy illness. Predeceased by her first husband and father of her children, Frederick William Sankey, and her second husband Harvey Thomas Robinson Sankey. Survived by her three children Fred (Lorna); Jannine Barnes; and Joe (Sandy); and one step-son Rollie (Elsie); and grandchildren Yvonne Dickson (Todd); Marilyn Gale (Brian); Sylvia Cavassini (Reno); Cameron and Avril Barnes; Jenell and Melissa Sankey; and two step-grandchildren, Wayne Sankey (Judy) and Dale Gould (Glen); and great-grandchildren, Alannah and Bryan Dickson; Joseph and Jillian Gale; Leanne, Marco and Sabrina Cavassini; Jennifer and Steven Sankey; Jasmine and Brittany Gould, also numerous friends, former senior bowlers, members of the IODE and special neighbours. Jeanie will be remembered for her dedication as secretary to her two senior ten-pin bowling leagues, her never-ending knitting for the IODE and her selfless devotion to her family.
A service in celebration of her life was held at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church at 23rd Street and St. Georges Avenue, North Vancouver, Friday May 22 1998, at 1:00 p.m. Pastors Floyd Grunau and Shirley Love officiating. Burial followed at Capilano View Cemetery, West Vancouver, and a reception back at the Alliance Church. Mryna Edith WOROBECK, 1942-2014. Myrna passed away with her children by her side at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home in Kamloops, BC on April 5, 2014 at the age of 71 years and 4 months, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Myrna was born on November 29, 1942 on the family farm, (in the Whitebeech School District, near Arran, SK). Myrna was the eldest child, of Melville and Isabel (Irving) Gillespie. Myrna received her, education at the Whitebeech School District and Arran School.
Myrna married Mike Worobec on September 13, 1959. In the spring of 1963 Mike and Myrna moved to their homestead in the Polar Bluff District, where they lived for 30 years and raised their family of five children; Linda, Darleen, Gail, Alden and Tracy.
Myrna worked very hard to provide for her family by cooking, gardening, canning and milking cows. Myrna worked side by side, with Mike in every aspect of their lives together on the farm. Myrna kept a very clean house and liked everything in a very particular way. Myrna expressed her love, with many nutritious meals and delicious baking. Myrna enjoyed socializing with friends, family and neighbors. Myrna enjoyed gardening, crocheting and reading, as well as many trips to Madge Lake, Townsend Lake and the Northwest Roundup and Exhibition. Myrna had numerous jobs, from cooking to cleaning in the surrounding areas. Myrna’s greatest accomplishment was earning her Home Care Aid Certificate and working with her clients, for over 20 years. In the spring of 1992 Myrna and Mike moved to Yorkton, SK to retire. Mike passed away on April 21, 2010. Myrna moved to Kamloops, in September of 2011 and shortly thereafter was diagnosed with cancer.
Myrna was predeceased by her loving husband Mike Worobec of 50 years. Her brother Blaine Gillespie, her parents Isabel and Melville Gillespie, father and mother in law Bill and Dora Worobec, sister and brother in law Alvina and Arseny Suchoplas, sister in law Nettie(Nellie) Carter. Left to celebrate the memories of Mryna’s life are her loving children: Linda (Rick) Yaskiw of Portage la Prairie, MB; Darleen (Don) Rudachyk of Norquay, SK; Gail (Wesley) Derkatch of Swan River, MB; Alden(Sonia) Worobec of Beaumont, AB; Tracy(Ken) Kolochuk of Dauphin, MB: Grandchildren: Nicole(Terry), Tyler (Shaylee); Christine(Jason), Jennifer (Clayton), Jarret; Jamie (Richelle), Corbin; Kaylin, Grace, Michelle; Megan and Austin: Great Grandchildren: Blayse, Maiyah, Conner, Donovan, Talon; Rylen, Sarah, Shaelynn, Ayssen and Ashlyn: Brother Barrie (Lavina) Gillespie; sister in law Georgena Gillespie; Aunt Jessie Yungkurt, sister and brother in law Stella and Jack Kuchma as well as many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
The memorial service was held on May 15, 2014 at 2pm from the Benito United Church, Benito, MB. Reverend Erin McIntyre Garrick officiating. Interment of cremation followed in the Benito Village Cemetery. Urn bearer will be Alden Worobec. Honorary pall bears are Myrna’s dear friends Vi Lambie, Clara Krakalovich, Mary Kseniuk, Ilene Yanchuk, Ann Halushka, and Margaret Hampton.
Cremation was entrusted to Kamloops Funeral Home, Kamloops, BC. Memorial arrangements are made by Paull Funeral Home & Crematorium, Swan River, MB
