Ann Gillespie sailed on ship LONDONDERRY from Londonderry, Ireland to St John, New Brunswick  1951. Ann was from Mountcharles, Co DONEGAL

Bridget Gillespie sailed on ship BARBARA  1851 from Londonderry, Ireland to New Brunswick, Canada – from Moville, Co DONEGAL

James Gillespie on ship ANNA from Ireland to Quebec port, Canada. His was from Newtownstewart, Co TRYONE.  (see also 1853)

Catherine Gillespie sailed from ship LONDONDERRY  from Londonderry, Ireland  To New Brunswick 1851 on same ship as Unity and Sally. However, she gave her home town as Carn, Co DONEGAL – a Catholic Parish – see also 1847 for other Carn Gillespies.

Unity & Sally Gillespie sailed on ship LONDONDERRY , from Londonderry, to New Brunswick, Canada. Both women were from CO DONEGAL.

 

Between 1852 and 1857, the Highlands and Islands Emigration Society assisted almost 5000 individuals to leave western Scotland for Australia. (no Gillespie found,  but full database of names from this link may help someone in their search)

1852

Ireland begins to recover from the Potato Famine that sent a million away and starved another million people.

1854

John Gillespie, 17, sailed on ship MINER from Ireland to St John, New Brunswick 1854 – he was from Moville, CO DONEGAL

[A Mulligan family arriving from  Ireland – may link to my own Gillespie history: ALDOLPH WARNER ship arriving at ? St John, New Brunswick port (not given)  1854: John Mulligan, 53, Fanny Mulligan, 43,  Thomas Mulligan, 17, Elizabeth 15, William 13, James 11, Sarah 9, Fanny 6, Robert 3, Alexander 3 months – all from Kesh, Co Fermanagh. Other researchers say our Mulligans came from Co Down, but posting this anyway as names fit and don’t want to forget it.).

1857

May, 1857   Mr & Mrs James Gillespie arrived in Quebec on ship Anglo Saxon after ‘a splendid run of 11 days” from Liverpool (Montreal Ocean Steam Ship Company’s vessel) 338 passengers and a large and valuable cargo.

Captain Gillespie,  on Barque Argentinus, left Londonderry May 6th, arrived Quebec June 6th, 1857 – 157 passengers  with residences
