Note: I traveled through Iran in a truck the fall of 1968 crossing the border from Turkey heading for Tabriz (Had to wait overnight for the Iranian customs official to return. He slammed shut his tiny shack as we approached, but gave us no problem the next day). We then drove to the City of Tehran for a three-day rest. Hot, dusty, rocky desert- like terrain all the way. Then north up over the mountains to the Caspian Sea and on to Afghanistan.
