Debbie Ann (Gregory) Gillespie March 20, 1955 – November 29, 2023. Elliot Lake, Ontario. I’m devastated to announce the passing of my loving, kind and beautiful mother who tragically lost her life during a selfless act of heroism, saving her precious dog, Shiloh. Beloved and fiercely devoted mother and best friend of Krysta. Lovingly remembered by Danan. She will always be doing “shots” with you from Heaven.
I’m comforted to know that she is reunited with her “big bro”, Billy Gregory who she deeply missed as well as her parents Jack and Anne Gregory. Lovingly remembered by Danan. She will always be doing “shots” with you from Heaven. I’m comforted to know that she is reunited with her “big bro”, Billy Gregory who she deeply missed as well as her parents Jack and Anne Gregory.
Survived by her Auntie Margie Gregory and Auntie Marg Winters. She loved you both so much. Always a friend to Billy. My Mom loved her family, the “Gregory Bunch”. She looked forward to partying with her cousins every year at the August Long Thessalon Family Ball Tournament. She was known to give the best hugs and I promise to carry on her hugging legacy. She loved her Thorkilson Family. When she saw them, it was as though no time had passed. Mom was grateful for her Gillespie Family, especially for the relationship she had with the late Bill and late Iris.A private service will be held at a later date

Dianne Gillespie, Just smile” was not merely a favourite phrase, but a motto that Dianne lived by throughout her years and her health struggles related to Paraneoplastic Cerebellar Degeneration (PCD). She was a very positive woman who shared her love of life, her faith, her commitment to family, sharp wit, her wicked sense of humour, generous spirit and contagious smile with everyone she met. Her special light will be deeply missed.
At the young age of 85, Gloria Dianne Helen Gillespie, who was the third youngest of nine children born to Vera (nee Veronica Murray) and Bert Coughlin, passed peacefully from this world on December 1, 2021, to join her husband, Lyle A. Gillespie, in Heaven. Dianne is sadly missed by so many friends and family members that it is impossible to name all those that loved her dearly. Special recognition is given to her most cherished soul mate, her “partner in crime” and Granddaughter Stephanie Pommerville. She is survived by her daughters Laurie Rutledge, Tamara Rutledge-Bourne (George) and Donna ‘Dee Dee’ Gillespie (Doug Ritchie), her step-children Gail Gillespie (Johnnie Skov), Christina Winter (Malcolm), Ken Gillespie, her sister Janet Brennan and her sister-in-law Norma Coughlin. Throughout the world, Dianne had hundreds of nieces and nephews as well as 64 grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She had been looking forward to sharing her Christmas with her great grandchildren Trinity Adey, Ellie and Lily Bourne. Dianne is predeceased by her brothers Bert, Dennis and Mac Coughlin and by her sisters Elizabeth Coughlin, Dorothea Holmes, Vera ‘Bubbles/Rusty’ Mackie, and Teresa McLeod.
Although she was a child born in Eastview (Vanier), Dianne felt blessed to call Ottawa, Ashton, Almonte, Carleton Place, Belleville and Kingston, home. After graduating The High School of Commerce at the age of 16, Dianne became a stenographer at Customs & Excise, then moved on to be a secretary for the Wills Officer in The Toronto General Trust Company. From there she became secretary to the Secretary of The Board of Broadcast Governors (now known as the C.R.T.C.) and finally the secretary to The Special Examiner of The County Courts. Her years of work, travel and community investment brought her so much joy and lasting friendships.
Dianne did not want a funeral service The family would like to thank The Almonte General Hospital, Dr. English and the rest of the Ottawa Civic Hospital ICU, Father Cooper and The Alan Barker Funeral Home for their excellent care during her last days. For the care provided throughout her years, special thanks to Dr. Atak Sr., Dr. David Atak, Dr. Roger Drake, and caregiver Sara Riley. In closing, we would like to share a quote from Dianne’s memoirs: “Regardless, I am at peace with life. Good things surround me as I make a conscious effort to keep the positive close at hand. If I am not walking before I die, I will be after. To my knowledge, there are no
wheelchairs in Heaven”.
We thought you would also like to read Dianne’s favourite poem:

Gordon Denis Gillespie, Gordie” as he was affectionately known, b 1937, died after a brief battle with Covid-19 passed his nursing home 2021. He leaves his three children, Cheryl, Colleen, Garth, wife Donna, grandchildren Shona and Chelsey, Garth Jr., Victoria, son-in-law Roger (D.2016), son-in-law Bruce, and daughter-in-law Deanna.
Gordie had an encyclopedic mind and would always impress with his knowledge. After scoring 100% in his grade twelve year he went on to become a CGA with Federated Co-Op, BACM, and Canada Revenue Agency where he was elected a union head. He was well respected in Ottawa during this role and was instrumental in securing better pay and pensions for the workers. After leaving the CRA he continued work as an accountant in private practice and was contributory in supporting the banning of illegal searches. Gordie always had a deep conviction for right and wrong and would often help friends as they needed with legal situations.
Although stricken with dementia since 2009, he could still recite his military number for his service as a reservist, for which he was very proud. He enjoyed golf, curling, cycling, walking, and having a pint and a good chat, preferably about history or the Blue Bombers. He said camping with his family was some of his happiest memories. His quick wit and subtle humour will be remembered and missed.
His ashes will be placed near his mother in Dominion City.

Predeceased by his brother John (1992), and survived by his sisters Jean Gillespie & Karen Lambert. No funeral. In the early 1980s, Peter joined CUSO as a volunteer and spent four years working in Botswana. It was there that he met and married Lulama. In the mid-1980s they returned to Canada to raise a family and Peter began work with Inter Pares. For the next 30 years Peter worked with anti- poverty organizations, human rights groups and pro-democracy movements in Asia and Africa. He was well-known for his work with the ethnic nationalities of Burma (Myanmar) and was instrumental in promoting Canadian support of refugees and displaced people from that country. He walked into remote jungle regions to meet with displaced people and recounted their stories in his writings and in meetings with officials and parliamentarians. In recent years, he was very involved in bringing public attention to the consequences of the massive illegal outflow of resources from developing countries into the global financial system. Peter loved to garden, play guitar, read and meet with his book club buddies to debate the issues of the day. Most of all, he loved to watch his children grow into smart and accomplished young people. There will be no funeral. Friends and family were invited to meet Peter’s family between 12:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015 and Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 1031 Chantenay Drive, Orleans.
