She married Jeremy L. Gillespie, along with his son, Tanner, on April 13, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peoria. She is survived by her parents of Naples, Fla.; her husband and son, Jeremy and Tanner, both at home; one brother, Aaron (Lindsay) Dawson and their daughter, Adalyn Dawson, all of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada; one sister, Amy Dawson of Tampa, Fla.; her mother and father-in-law, Dave and Gloria Gillespie of Creve Coeur, Ill.; and grandparents, Phyllis Gingher of Naples, Fla., and Rich and Rose Dawson of Peoria, Illinois. Arthur Gillespie, of Randolph Co, Illinois was born at the old Gillespie homestead 5 miles northwest of Tilden, Nov. 19, 1861, and died at the Community Hospital in Sparta, July 18, 1945 having reached the age of 83-7-19. Infirmities of old age caused his death. He was a son of John and Margaret (Hair) Gillespie and one of a family of six children, 4 boys and 2 girls. He was married to Louisa Laney in 1889 and to this union were born three children, Lula, Clarence, and Rachel. In her infancy, Rachel died. The other two children and Mr. Thomas Gillespie a brother, a nd 5 grandchildren and a daughter-in-law mourn his passing. Two of the grandsons are in the service of Uncle Sam; Staff Sergeant Garlan R. Gillespie who is in a hospital in Louisville, Ky. And 2nd class Pharmacist, James C. Gillespie on Okinawa in the far east. Mr. Gillespie was a hard working man and a successful farmer. He was a friendly man and delighted to visit with his neighbors and loved ones. His wife died when the children were quite young and he made the best of life’s circumstances and fought bravely life’s battles. The community sympathize with the bereaved families. Bryant Welsh Gillespie, III, (Bud) 96, died Aug 1, 2018. Bud was born July 15, 1922 in Indianapolis IN. He graduated from Shortridge HS and received a BS from Washington & Lee University. Bud served in WWII as an agent in the Army Counter Intelligence Corp. He landed on Omaha Beach on D Day with the 29th Infantry Division. In 1946 he married Emily Eugenie (Genie), Siegfriedt of Lead S.D. They were married 48 years until her death in 1994. Bud began his career in sales with GMs Overseas Operation Div, NYC. In 1968 he joined Nightengale Conant Corp in Chicago as VP of Broadcasting, retiring in 1989. Bud produced his own daily radio programs under the pseudonym of Gil Bryan; ‘A Time To Remember ‘ and ‘A Thought For Today’, broadcast in 39 states and Canada. Bud continued to remain active in retirement. His old friend Kurt Vonnegut wrote “Bud is the most life-loving man I have ever known”. As a WWII veteran, Bud’s experiences were the subject of talks he gave to school audiences throughout Chicago. His autobiography concluded with the line “It has been a great adventure, I am grateful and I am content “. Bud was an Eagle Scout, member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, The 29th Division Assoc. and the American Legion. He belonged to the University Club of Chicago and was a member of St Andrews Church of Downers Grove. He is survived by sons Thomas Gillespie, Wilmette, IL, John Gillespie, Oxford, MS and daughters Mary Jane Haley, Downers Grove, IL and Carol Dlesk, Crystal Lake, IL, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was born on September 7, 1941 in Percy, IL, the son of Glover Gillespie and Grace (Brown) Rednour. He married Maria Elena Garcia in Watseka on July 19, 1991. Surviving are his wife, Maria Elena Gillespie of Watseka; eight children, Dorothy Ramon, John (Julie) Gillespie, Alvin Gillespie, Allida (Julio) Hernandez, Romer Gillespie, Burl Gillespie, Magali Gillespie, and Delmar Gillespie Jr; one brother, Glover Gillespie; one sister, Sharon Parks; twelve grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; one brother, Roy Gillespie; and one sister, Margaret Allen.
Sleepy loved music, especially playing piano and singing. He was a resident of the Watseka area for sixty-two years. He had a passion for golf. Reverend Edward F. Gillespie died Dec. 9 in St. Charles, Illinois. Father was born on April 1, 1931, in Chicago to Edward Gillespie and Mary Agnes O’Byrne Gillespie. Father Gillespie was ordained by the Most Reverend Loras Thomas Lane at St. James in Rockford on May 25, 1957. Father attended St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore, MD. Father served in active ministry for the Diocese of Rockford from 1957-2001 finishing his service as pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Aurora and retired there from active ministry on July 2, 2001. Father Gillespie had a gift of relating to young people which made his many years of ministry in education so fruitful. He touched many student’s lives and is remembered fondly by so many. Father is preceded in death by his parents; Mary Agnes and Edward Gillespie both of Doonin, Kilcar, County Donegal Ireland. Father is survived by the O’Byrne family in Ireland and cousins from the Gillespie side here in the States and his good friend and caregiver Gail Quinn. Gip was born Sept. 24, 1935, in Champaign, the son of Dean and Clara (Allison) Gillespie. He married Helen McKee on Sept. 24, 1989, in Las Vegas. Gip is survived by his wife, Helen Gillespie of Bement; son, Timothy Dean Gillespie of Garrett; daughters, Terresa Lynn Gillespie of Monticello and Ashley Denise Magos of Urbana; stepdaughter, Sheri Robeck of Mahomet; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Gwen Thompson of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Tony and Teddy; stepson, David; and grandson, Josh.
Gip retired as a maintenance supervisor at General Cable. Gip served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Albert Parker American Legion Post 620. Gip enjoyed hunting, guns, fishing, camping and traveling and was a St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears fan.

Georgiann Marie Gillespie, “Gee” Nov 16, 1957 — Apr 19, 2022, East Moline, IL Georgiann “Gee” Gillespie, 64, of East Moline, IL passed away peacefully on April 19, 2022, Georgiann was born on November 16th, 1957, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of George and Ella Jo Gillespie. She graduated Springfield High School in 1975 and while in Springfield, she enjoyed decorating cakes, being a candy striper at St. John’s hospital and a florist at Jean’s. She was a lover of disco and enjoyed dancing and participating in dance competitions. (and loved Elvis).
In October of 1977 she and her family all moved to the Quad Cities. June of 1978 she was in a car accident which by all science and medicine should had turned out very differently, she survived and God blessed her and her family and gave us 44 bonus years with her. She had touched so many lives at Generations nursing home and Aspen Rehab facility. She was the social butterfly and loved her family at Aspen Rehab. Georgiann will be dearly missed and always remembered for her genuine smile that could light up the room and her laugh that was contagious. Georgiann was predeceased by her father George Gillespie. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer (Jamie) King of Colona, IL. Granddaughter Emilly (Tim) Schanken of Geneseo, IL. Sisters Sue (Curtis) Hanson of Moline, IL. Janie (Richard) Davis of Carterville, IL. Brother Chuck (Theresa) Gillespie of Rock Island, IL. Her mother Ella Gillespie of Moline, IL. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Georgiann requested a celebration of life be held in her honor as opposed to traditional funeral services. James K Gillespie of Randolph Co, Illinois 80, died suddenly at the home of his brother Arthur Gillespie, Monday morning. He had been making his home for some time first with his brother Thomas M. and then with Arthur. He had never married. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at one o’clock with Rev. Paul W. Duncan as the officiating minister. Burial was made in the Old Salem Cemetery. J ames Kell Gillespie was born in Washington County, Illinois at the old Gillespie homestead, 1 855, April 27, and died at the home of his brother Arthur, January 27, 1936. Infirmities of old age was the cause of his death. With the exception of a few years he lived in Missouri, the rest of his life has been spent in the vicinity where he died.. Mr Gillespie lived a useful, busy life, farming his occuptation. He was one of a family of five. His father and mother, John and Margaret Gillespie came from S. Carolina about 1832 and settled where Thoas Gillespie now dwells. Mr Gillespie leaves to mourn his passing two brothers: Thomas, and Arthur of Marissa, Illinois and Many relatives and friends. Mr Gilllespie, a life long resident of the Lively Grove community, had for sometime suffered with rheumatism, asthma, and kidney trouble and the past two weeks had become much weaker.

Gillespie of Williams Bay, WI and Karen (Wally) Smith of Naperville, adored grandfather of Kristen (Brandon) Brian and Abigail Smith, devoted son of the late James and Annabelle Gillespie, dear brother of the late Roger (the late Elaine) Gillespie and the late Barbara “Bunny” (the late William) Argast, fond uncle, great-uncle, and friend of many, including the late Frank and Jerry Wallenberg, former boyhood neighbors who along with Jim and his late brother, Roger, made up “The Brothers Four.”
Jim grew up on Chicago’s Northwest Side, was a graduate of Lane Tech High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Idaho State University in Pocatello. He served as a military policeman in U.S. Army from 1953-1956 and was honorably discharged as a corporal. Jim was employed for many years with Shell Oil Company, retiring as VP of Credit.
Jim was a former member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Naperville and a current member of St Benedict Catholic Church, Fontana, WI. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs and enjoyed fishing. One of Jim’s favorite places in the world was Lake Holcombe, north of Eau Claire, WI.

Josephine left home at 18 years of age and boarded a ship heading to America. She arrived in New York and boarded a train to Chicago where she was met by her dear Aunt Catherine Rice and sister Winnie. She found work at Prudential Insurance, the tallest building in Chicago at the time as she told her family back home. Josephine was a hardworking and kind soul who was loved by all who knew her. She had seven children but she took joy in mothering all of her children’s friends. Josephine was devoted to her Catholic faith, family and friends and will be dearly missed by all. As Mom would say after sharing a cup of tea, “God Bless”.

She graduated from Jefferson High School in Jefferson, WI in 1941. Following high school, she went to the Milwaukee Business Institute where she was a member of the Beta Chi Rho Honorary Society. She married James F. Gillespie, a building contractor in Chicago, on August 30, 1947 at St Bernard Church in Wauwatosa, WI. The former Kathryn Ann Shannon, Mrs. Gillespie, worked in retail 1967 to 1973 at Marshall Fields in Park Forest, IL. and 1973 to 1982 at Edwin David Clothier in Homewood, IL. She joined Richard D. Irwin Publishing Company in Homewood, IL. in 1982 retiring in 1985. She is past president of the St Joseph’s Church Women Guild and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post 8077 Homewood, IL. Daughter of the late William L. and Anna Shannon (Martin). She is survived by her daughter Anne Sepos, two sons Robert (Donna) and Thomas (Erin) Gillespie. Six grandchildren Ann-Marie Poe, Joseph Sepos, Elizabeth Sepos, Ryan Gillespie, Frances Gillespie, Jack Gillespie and one great-grand child, Lincoln Trierweiler. Aunt of many nieces and nephews. Leslie Eugene Gillespie, Sr, 70, of Kewanee, IL, passed away on June 8, 2023, peacefully at his home. Per his wishes he will be cremated, and no services will be held. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory-Atkinson Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Les was born on July 17, 1952, in Kewanee, IL, the son of Ralph and Margaret (Zablackis) Gillespie. He married Vivian Davis in 1972 and she preceded him in death in 2021. Les graduated from Kewanee High School and worked in construction all his life. He was a wonderful husband, father, and “PaPa”.

Melvin Louis Gillespie, November 28, 1940 – August 4, 2024 Graduate of Roosevelt High School and a proud Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. His long career as an Insurance Agent garnered him the nickname “The Insurance Man”, as he was affectionately known throughout the city of Gary. He was an avid sports enthusiast who was a regular figure at sporting events across the city and state. Melvin transitioned to eternal life on Sunday August 4, 2024, at the age of 83. He is preceded in death by his parents Noel Gillespie and Erma Woods, brother Roy Gillespie, sister Helen Evans and daughter Kimberly. Patrick John Gillespie, a U.S. Air Force Veteran and pillar of the Chicago community, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on December 2, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, Patrick’s life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his career, and his community.
Patrick was the loving husband of the late Joan Marie Gillespie, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. He was a beloved father to Patrick K. (Cindy) Gillespie, Brian (Debbie) Gillespie, and Shari Gillespie. His role as a father was one he cherished deeply, guiding his children with a gentle hand and a generous heart. As a cherished grandfather to Courtney (Elmer) Monaco, Steve (Lauren) Gillespie, Andrea Gillespie, Christine Gillespie, and Kelly Gillespie, Patrick instilled values of kindness and generosity. His joy only multiplied with the arrival of his great-grandchildren Zak Monaco, Hailey Monaco, Brady Monaco, Blake Gillespie, and Easton Gillespie, who will remember him for his thoughtful nature and warm spirit. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who cherished their time with their uncle.
Patrick was predeceased by his sister, the late Jean Mann, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and a bond that remained strong throughout their lives.
Patrick was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School who professionally dedicated 70 years to a successful career as a Financial Planner and Insurance Broker. His expertise and integrity in his field earned him the respect and trust of his colleagues and clients alike. Patrick’s commitment to service extended beyond his professional life as he was an active member of the Chicago Lawn Sertoma for 56 years and the Darien Lions Club for nearly 50 years. His civic engagement was a testament to his belief in giving back to the community that had given him so much.
Patrick’s interests were as diverse as they were passionate. An avid golfer, he found joy in the game and the friendships forged on the greens. His love for reading kept him engaged with the world and its ever-changing landscape. Ballroom dancing was a delightful escape that he enjoyed following the passing of his beloved wife Joan. Patrick took great pride in his commitment to the city of Darien, including his role as a former Darien City Alderman and recipient of the Darien Citizen of the Year Award. His efforts were instrumental in the development of the Darien community, helping to establish the local library and police station, landmarks that will serve as lasting tributes to his commitment to civic duty.
Powers Lake held a special place in Patrick’s heart as his happy place, a sanctuary where he found peace and solace. It was here that he reflected on the beauty of life and the importance of cherishing every moment.
Described by those who knew him as kind, generous, and thoughtful, Patrick’s legacy is one of love and service. His gentle demeanor and willingness to help others left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Ruth Marie Gillespie. March 8, 1923 – June 23, 2023. Our mother fought a heroic battle to the end of 100 years. Ruth passed peacefully June 23, 2023 at 9:30 pm. Ruth was the daughter of Sidney William Reno and Marjory Leak Reno. Marjory passed following child birth. Sidney married Genevia Leak who soon became the mother mom would love and know. On August 24, 1940, Ruth married Lloyd Gillespie. Lloyd died in 1988. Ruth now leaves a daughter Janet and Robert Kykendal of Hillsboro, MO, sons, Larry and Sandy Gillespie of Shipman, Gerry Gillespie of Bunker Hill, brother, Don and Joan Reno of Medora, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Ruth’s life was not only a homemaker but following the return from war, Lloyd and Ruth were active with the American Legion. Along with raising children, Ruth helped a good friend of hers, Unma Beckham at the Shipman Lumber Company. In addition, Ruth looked forward to spending time with her special friends, Mary Jean Reno working at the Red Cross Blood Bank.
An additional highlight of her life was the partnership with her mother Genevia in purchasing a small farm. Ruth and Lloyd would go to the farm nearly every evening to feed calves and pigs. Ruth’s brothers lived close enough to help with answering questions. Also, Ruth would share farm stories with Bill Schoenman at church. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, siblings, Russell and Virginia Reno, Mary and Ernie Sons, daughter, Sondra Marie, grandson, Gerald Gillespie and a daughter in law, Debbie Gillespie. Sharon Kay Gillespie, 71, of San Antonio, Florida passed April 15, 2019. Sharon was born to Wilford and Nellie Thannert, October 26, 1947, in Peoria, ILLINOIS. She graduated from Academy of Our Lady High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Illinois University.
She married Jack Leroy Gillespie in 1974, and they lived together most recently in San Antonio, Florida. Together they raised 2 children. She leaves as her legacy: Mary Ellen (Gillespie) Drennen and Joseph Patrick Gillespie. She also leaves to cherish her memory two siblings, Stephen Michael (Cherie) Thannert and Julia Ann (Dale) Moore. Her children remember her as a fun-loving, and hard-working mother.
She is preceded in death by her father Wilford C. Thannert. Sharon is survived by her mother Nellie Thannert, Morton Illinois, her husband Jack, her daughter Mary Ellen Drennen, Thornton, Colorado, and her son Joseph Patrick Gillespie, Thornton, Colorado. She is also survived by her 3 grandchildren, John Connor Drennen, 19, Jack Ryan Drennen, 16, and Maia Hollyn Drennen, 12.

Tom Gillespie, 74, of Claremont, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. Tom was born on May 29, 1944 in Rock Falls, IL, the son of Conrad and Maggie (McCleary) Gillespie. He married Carolyn Sue “Susie” (Burget) on June 30, 1965 in Olney and she survives him.
Tom worked at IGA for many years, later in his career he worked at The Opportunity Center as well as Gumbel Car Sales. Tom enjoyed antiquing and auctions. He also took pleasure in working in his yard. Tom was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He volunteered for Big Brothers/Big Sisters and enjoyed working with children. Tom had a genuine smile, a good sense of humor, a big heart, and the gift of gab.
Tom is survived by his wife of 53 years, Susie Gillespie of Claremont; Son, Tom (Sarah Tomlinson) Gillespie of Claremont; Son, Tim Gillespie of Olney; Daughter, Tammy (Tony Jarvis) Gillespie of Vincennes, IN; Daughter, Nikole Gillespie of Claremont; Grandchildren, Jason Gillespie, Shayda Noble, Kennedy Leighty, and Wyatt Rule; and several great grandchildren; Sisters, Joyce Smith of Olney and Sharon (John) Mosser of Arthur, IL; Sister-in-law, Hope Gillespie; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 1 sister.

Tom P Gillespie known to friends as Tommy, passed away November 22, 2018 at the age of 74 years. He was born August 11, 1944 to Tom Sr. and Dorothy Gillespie in St. Louis, MO. Tommy was a lifelong resident of Gary, Indiana, owner of Gillespie Ford Inc. , 1962 graduate of Tolleston High School and Airman in the United States Air Force. Wardell Gillespie, age 77, the eldest of 10 children was born September 10, 1934 in Egypt. Mississippi to the late Willie B and Sallie (Hutt) Gillespie. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Zion Spring Baptist Church. He was partially educated in the local school district in Egypt MS. Later, moving to Ann Arbor Michigan he completed his education there.
Wardell served in the United States Army from 1954 until1958. He later became employed as an Iron Worker (construction) until retirement. He loved to bowl, fish, hunt and gardening. Wardell was a people person and loved everybody. He previously attended New Zion Baptist Church where he sang in the choir for many years. Wardell later transferred his membership to Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church where he served the Lord faithfully as a Trustee. He loved his church family and will be missed by all that knew him.
After a short battle with illness, on August 15, 2012 Wardell departed from this life at home with family at his bedside. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving wife of 11 years, Beatrice (Baby Doll) Gillespie, two daughters, Gertrude Gillespie of Ann Arbor MI. & Shawn Gillespie of Rockford IL, three stepchildren he raised, Vea L. Payton, Lawayne C. Taylor and Ruth Taylor; two grandsons, two sisters Margie (Alfred) Johnson of Rockford Il, Mary Jennings of Saltillo MS., two brothers Willie James (Clara) Gillespie of Romulus MI., Cloyd (Indiana) Gillespie of Aberdeen MS., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & caring friends and his special friends Rev. Stanley Dillard and Curtis Stewart. Wardell was predeceased by his parents, son, step daughter and five brothers.
