Susan Marie BEESON (Gillespie), age 68 of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, November 30, 2025 after a short but courageous fight. She was born in Chester, PA and raised in Claymont, DE and is the daughter of Marie Gillespie and the late James Gillespie. Susan graduated from St. Mark’s High School in 1974. After graduating from cosmetology school, she began her career working at various salons in the Wilmington area.
Sue lived a life full of joy, and will be remembered for her laughter and fun loving spirit. She never hesitated to help a friend in need and loved nothing more than a great party. She spent time walking with her cherished Boston Terriers. Susan was an integral part of the Delaware Veterans Post #1 (Del Vets) community for over 30 years and made many lifelong friends at both the Post and Pool. Her greatest joy over the last ten years was being a grandmother to her three grandsons. Sue also enjoyed traveling, her annual Rehoboth Beach vacations and eating delicious meals prepared by her loving husband. One of Sue’s many selfless acts of kindness was donating her tissue to further ovarian cancer research and hopefully help find a cure.
Along with her mother Marie, she is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jon P. Beeson; her children, Rachel Johnson (Brandon) and Evan Beeson; her grandsons, Henry, Leo and Elliot Johnson; 3 siblings, Marie Walters (Dennis), James Gillespie (Nadeen) and Franny Gillespie and her loving nieces and nephew. She is preceded in death by her father James Gillespie.
A visitation was held on Tuesday, December 9, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE 19810 where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the church at 12:30 pm. Burial will be held privately.

Anna Mae Gillespie, 78, Lincoln. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 in Millsboro. Anna Mae was born on January 19, 1944 in Milford, Del. to the late Howard A. and Edith (Carroll) Walls. Anna Mae was a faithful member of the Church of God in Milford. She was also a member of the Ellendale Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She worked to LD Caulk for many years before retiring. She then began working for Milford Schools in the cafeteria. In addition to her parents; Anna Mae was preceded in death by her son, Howard Gillespie; her daughter, Mary Wothers; her sister, Ruth Ann Rust; her grandson, Donnie Jones; and her great granddaughter, Hollie Faith Seal. Anna Mae will be greatly missed by her husband of 62 years, Wilson Vinyard Gillespie, Sr.; her children, Anna Marie Hamblin (Bob), Wilson Gillespie, Jr. (Karen), and Sarah Jones (Norman); as well as ten grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren on the way.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Ellendale Fire Hall, 302 Main St., Ellendale, DE 19941. A time of visitation began at 12 p.m. Interment followed at Slaughter Neck Cemetery in Milford, Del.

Brian S Gillespie, 52, Harrington. Passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021, at the Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. Brian was born in Harrisburg, Pa. to Marlon A. Gillespie Jr., and Linda Pacella.
Brian was the owner and operator of Sunrise Auto Sales in Viola. To sum up Brian in a few short paragraphs would be impossible. Brian was bigger then life and just a big kid at heart. He loved to laugh, play jokes on people, scare everyone to death with his antics, and was a big prankster. Brian never met a stranger, and everyone that met him ended up loving him. Brian loved everything, but his favorite activities were bowling on a league, golfing every chance he could get, cooking, baking, grilling, travelling, umpiring Little League, double fisting ice cream cones, and bonfires. He loved all kinds of music and karaoke, and really enjoyed his “Pap and Joe dates” every Wednesday with his grandson. Brian was usually never far from his Newfoundland “lap dogs”, Paxton and Phoenix. Throughout family and friends storms in life, Brian was always the calm in the storm. In addition to his parents; Brian is survived by his loving wife, Terri L. Gillespie; daughters, Lauren Gillespie (fiance Michael Hernandez), Aliyah Gil-Herrera; grandson, Joseph Waters; numerous aunt and uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family members.

Cherry Copeland Gillespie, Greenville – age 82, of Greenville Delaware, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 31, 2020. Born May 19, 1938, Cherry grew up in Holland Michigan. Sailing was a favorite pastime in her youth and something she enjoyed as an adult whenever the opportunity arose. Cherry attended Bradford Junior College in Haverhill MA, where she made several lifelong friends. From there she studied at Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School and worked in New York City until she and her roommates were enticed to attend a dance in Connecticut hosted by some boys from Yale that were short a few dates. That night she met the love of her life William (Bill) F. Gillespie III, whom she married in 1960. Bill’s career with DuPont brought them to Wilmington DE at first, then on to Evanston, IL, Kansas City, MO and Lake Forest IL before settling permanently back in Delaware in 1969. In each city, Cherry took great pride in making her homes places of comfortable, tasteful elegance. Her knack for interior design led many friends to ask her for guidance, and she eventually got her decorator’s license working part-time in affiliation with Plain & Fancy in Centerville. DE. Her love of design extended into her gardens as well. Cultivating plants and flowers was a year-round interest. She was a long-time member of the Wilmington Garden Club and held several leadership roles over the years. Besides these activities, raising two children, and enjoying many wonderful times with the dozens of people in her circle of friends, Cherry enjoyed playing golf. She and Bill were longtime members of Bidermann and the Vicmead Hunt Club. Much of their travel in later years revolved around opportunities to play golf. This passion led Cherry and Bill to South Carolina in the early 1980s where they became founding members of Spring Island in Okatie, SC. Many other wonderful friendships were formed there. Their legacy lives on at Spring Island through the Gillespie Nature trail. After Bill’s untimely death in 2004, Cherry continued going to Spring Island seasonally before eventually selling the home there to be in Greenville DE full-time. In recent years, her life centered around playing bridge, participating in Garden Club, visiting friends and her children and grandchildren. Cherry was preceded in death by her sister Sally Copeland Horrax, and her husband William F. Gillespie III. She is survived by her son Brook J. Gillespie (Kathy) and granddaughter MacKenzie Gillespie of Chester Springs, PA, and her daughter Sally H. Gillespie, granddaughter Emily C. Boettger and grandson William “Gunner” Boettger of Sun Valley, Idaho. The family is planning a memorial service to be held in Delaware in the fall.

David Allen Gillespie Sr, Lincoln. passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at home. David was born in Milford, Del. the son of the late William J. and Margaret (McFadden) Gillespie.
He was a graduate of Milford High School and Lincoln Technical School. He worked as a counter person for Fisher Auto Parts/NAPA Auto Parts in Georgetown for many years before retiring. David enjoyed bowling, was a collector of truck and car models and was an avid HO model railroader with a large train set up at home.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; a son, David A. Gillespie, Jr. (Kristen); a daughter, Kristian Vance; three grandchildren, Logan, Gavyn and Danyka; and one brother, Harvey Gillespie (Larraine).

Gwendolyn P Gillespie, 76 of Felton, DE passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Bayhealth- Kent General Hospital. She was the daughter of the late, Carolina L and Sigmund J. Paczkowski. Mrs. Gillespie was a mom and homemaker while helping her husband, Marshall run their business, Coastal Communications, until his death in 2003. When her children were younger, Gwendolyn was actively involved in supporting their extra-curricular pursuits, instilling in them her love of Christmas, and taking them to the beach every weekend in the summer. She also liked doing crossword puzzles, sudoku, reading, and drinking coffee. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic church where she volunteered time in the ministries there. In more recent years, Gwendolyn cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her easy going, loving spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Gwendolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Marshall E. Gillespie; brother, Wayne Paczkowski; and sister, Jacquelynn Baney. Harry J “Bud” Gillespie, departed this life on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018. Born in Newark, N.J. on Jan. 6, 1928, to Harry Francis Gillespie and Margery Byrne Gillespie. He was raised in the Valesburg neighborhood of Newark, N.J., attended Sacred Heart grade school and graduated from Seton Hall Prep High School, South Orange, N.J. He served in the United States Army Air Core, honorably discharged in 1948. Graduated from Newark College of Engineering (NJIT) in 1951 with a degree in Civil Engineering.
Bud had a 37-year career with Lock Joint Pipe Company (Interpace Corporation), where he worked in New Jersey until 1972, and spent four years in Michigan, and Illinois, before returning to New Jersey. He was a civil engineer and later promoted to vice president of sales, and vice president of manufacturing. He finished his career as the plant manager for Cronite Company, Parsippany, N.J., retiring in 1994. In 1951, he married Patricia “Pat” Elizabeth Ryan. Bud and Pat resided in Madison, N.J. where they raised their family of five children. In 2000, they relocated to sunny Sarasota, Fla. where Bud enjoyed playing golf year round.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years in 2016, his sister Mary Gillespie McCloskey, and a much-loved Aunt Katharine Rita Byrne.Survived by his sister-in-laws, Jan Ryan, JoAnne Ryan O’Gorman (Patrick); and brother-in-law, Richard J. Ryan (Nan) all of Florida. He leaves to treasure his memory five children, Karen Garrison (Curtis), Delaware, Jeanne Burmeister, Iowa, Brian M. Gillespie Sr. (Kris), Pennsylvania, Maureen Gillespie, New York, and Sean Gillespie (Don Sturz), New York. Seven grandchildren, Amber Garrison, Delaware, April Taborda (Henry), Delaware, Anne Booth (Nate), Iowa, Glenn Burmeister (Rob Gardocki), New York, B. Michael Gillespie, Jr, Texas, Jackson Gillespie (April Gibson), Ohio, and Catherine Gillespie (Xavier Vargas), Massachusets; four great grandchildren, Gabriel Taborda, Jax Taborda, Emma Booth, and Harrison Booth; a step great granddaughter, Monica Irizarry and her daughters Audriana and Zoey, Delaware. James Patrick Gillespie, 87, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026. Born on January 7, 1939, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he was the beloved son of the late Anthony Gillespie and Nora Gillespie (Doherty). Jim was a devoted husband to Lois Gillespie (Caddoo), with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. He was a proud and loving father to James P. Gillespie Jr., Daniel Gillespie, Elizabeth DePadova, and Sara DePadova. He was predeceased by his cherished daughter, Patricia Gillespie. He was a treasured grandfather to Shannon, Shaun, Sarah, and Sherlyn, and a loving great-grandfather to Patrick, Connor, Lane, Lucas, Levi, and Trip. Loving uncle to Karen Dwyer and Kevin Brennan. He is also survived by his beloved “girl,” Kiwi, his cherished bird and constant companion. Jim was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Brennan, John Gillespie, Anthony Gillespie, and Bridgitt Boyle.
Jim dedicated 35 years of his professional life as a Principal Accountant with PSEG, where he was respected for his integrity, diligence, and steady leadership. Beyond his career, he was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He also generously gave his time as a volunteer at New Life Thrift Shop and at Beebe Healthcare’s Same Day Surgery Center, reflecting his quiet commitment to serving his community. June Williams Gillespie, 86, of Delmar passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Laurel, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 24, 1938, in Salisbury, Maryland, a daughter of the late Laura Hitchens Williams and W. Samuel Williams, and granddaughter of the late Mayor of Salisbury, I. Virgil Hitchens. June was not only a dedicated supervisor during her long career at K&L Microwave, where she worked for 25 years, but she also shared her caring nature with many as a caregiver after her retirement. After her time at K&L, she spent a decade serving at Food Lion. June was deeply involved in her community, serving as past president of both the Salisbury and county fire departments auxiliaries and Quota International of Salisbury. Her faith was important to her, and she dedicated nine years as the Sunday School Superintendent at Grace Methodist Church in Salisbury, where she fostered a love for learning and community among the children. An adventurous spirit, June loved to travel and lived in various states and even spent three years in New Delhi, India. She had a knack for finding treasures while thrift store shopping and cherished moments spent with her beloved family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Patti Griffin (Tim) of Delmar and Tammi Hudson (Skip) of Laurel; grandchildren, TJ, Lauren, Katelyn, Kyle, Anna, Tyler, Kiera, and Kourtney; 12 great-grandchildren; and father of her daughters, William K. Gillespie of Arizona.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Gillespie, and a brother, Howard Williams.
Her daughters were the light of her life, she had a special love for her grandchildren, great grandchildren, New York family, friends and her church. A memorial service was held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Methodist Church, 635 E. Church Street in Salisbury. Pastor Chris Guy will officiate. A private memorial graveside service will be held at a later date at Parsons Cemetery, 912 N. Division Street in Salisbury.

Kenneth R. Gillespie, Sr. 74 of Harrington, died Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Bay Health Medical Center, Dover. He is the son of the late Lee and Hazel Voss Gillespie. Mr. Gillespie served in the Delaware National Guards and worked for Milford Fertilizer prior to retirement. He was preceded in death by three siblings. He and Lewis Carpenter would bartend at the Milford Fire Hall when they used to have dances. He also helped various Fire Companies in the area. He was an avid Eagles fan. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary D. Hughes Gillespie; one son, Kenneth R. Gillespie, Jr. (Mary E.); also, eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He has five surviving siblings; and three step children, Martha Rae, Freda Ann and Patricia Lynn. Services will be private.

Marjorie E “Margie” Gillespie, of Smyrna, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2012. She was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Eugene and Florence Thompson. She moved to Blackbird in 1964 and graduated from Middletown High School. Margie was employed for many years as a cake decorator, and enjoyed the beach, gardening, animals, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Angel Gillespie. She is survived by five children, Davey Outten, Samantha, Ashley, and Jake Gillespie, and Ernie Carlisle III; two brothers, Eugene S. Samuel L Gillespie, Felton, passed away on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012 at his home. He was born to the late Marshall Gillespie and Madaline and Walt Ivory. After graduating from Caesar Rodney High School in 1957, Sam started work for the Coca Cola Co. After leaving there, he went to work for Carl King as a truck driver. He later went to work at General Foods, which later became Kraft Foods. He eventually retired from the Engineering Services section of Kraft after 34 years. In his spare time, Sam enjoyed hunting, bowling, shooting sporting clays, and golf. In his younger years, he played fast pitch softball. He did enjoy coaching the Playtex Woman’s Softball team for many years. His favorite pastime was visiting the Harrington Slots, and keeping score with his favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sam was very people oriented, and quite witty. He had countless friends and always had a way to make you smile. He will be remembered as a jokester, but also had a giving, generous, and compassionate heart. He would give you the shirt off of his back, and oftentimes help those in need anonymously, without recognition. He loved to keep in touch with his family and friends via the computer. He also loved taking his buddy Sassy on daily rides in his all terrain Workhorse. Above all, he loved and cared for his wife, Josephine, and loved “picking” on her. He was preceded in death by hisbrother in law, Robert N. Mitchell. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Josephine M. Gillespie of Felton; mother-in-law, Mary Massey of Felton; brother, Joseph Gillespie of Mentor, Ohio; sisters, Sandra A. Mitchell of Greenwood and Alberta Scheutzow of Ohio; brother-in-laws and spouses, Richard McCloskey (Wanda), Ronald McCloskey (Patty), Robert McCloskey (Patty), and John McCloskey (Linda), all of Felton; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends. Service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be one hour prior. Sarah Marie Gillespie age 75 of Lewes DE, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Christiana Care Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on May 12, 1947, in Erie PA, the daughter of Edith (Burger) Gioia. Sarah spent her formative years first in Kane PA and then in Philadelphia. After graduating from high school Sarah entered a Catholic religious order where she served the Lord for 13 years. During that time, she attended college and became a Registered Nurse. She also spent several years as a missionary in South America fully utilizing her nursing skills.
Sarah attended Immaculata University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Over the course of her career as a Registered Nurse, she expertly and lovingly cared for thousands of patients, and her work gave her a great sense of purpose, satisfaction, and joy. On April 30, 1982, Sarah married the love of her life, Brian Gillespie and they would spend the next forty years raising their beautiful daughters. Sarah loved the simple things in life – taking long walks on the beach, watching old movies, attending mass regularly, and curling up with a good book. Her devotion to her family, however, took precedence above all and the time spent with those she held dear was what she cherished the most. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, and friend, and those who were fortunate enough to have known her will miss her deeply.
After retiring from 40 years of nursing in 2011, Sarah and Brian moved to Lewes DE where they lived the good life, spending time at the beach with friends and family. She could always be found on Sunday mornings in the front pew at Saint Edmond Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach with Brian, and after that at a front row table at the Crystal Restaurant. Sarah also was a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Jude Catholic Church.
Sarah and Brian travelled extensively during their marriage, visiting places like Cape Town,outh Africa, Tokyo Japan, London England, Bermuda, and the Highlands of Scotland to mention a few.
Sarah was preceded in death by her brothers Joseph and Nicolas. Sarah is survived by her husband of forty years, Brian, her daughters Jennifer and Kimberly, her mother Edith Gioia, and her sisters Madeline, Edith, and Alice. She was also a sister-in-law to Kevin and Donna Gillespie, and an aunt o many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 11:00 AM at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE, where friends visited beginning at 10:00AM. At Sarah’s wishes, dress will be casual; it’s the beach!

Thomas William Gillespie, age 85 of Lewes, DE, died on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on September 1, 1937, in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Henry and Dorothy Gillespie.Thomas attended Paul Newman High School in Philadelphia. A proud Veteran of the U. S. Navy, aboard the USS Saratoga, the first time it was commissioned on April 14, 1956. Thomas was employed with Septa in Philly for more than 20 years and moved to Blenheim, NJ in 1972. After retiring from Septa, he took a short break before returning to work as a custodian for the Gloucester Township Board of Education for 11 years before retiring to Lewes, Delaware with his wife Rita.
Thomas was a captain for the Lobster New Year’s Brigade in 1969 and was involved with the Mummers Organization for many years. He belonged to the American Legion Post 17 and was a commander for a few years and recently moved his membership to post 28.
Thomas was known for his sense of humor and the jokes he liked to play on his unsuspecting victims. A Philadelphian at heart, he never stopped rooting for his beloved Eagles and Phillies. Above all Thomas was a family man; he was a loving father and grandfather who cared for his loved ones until the last day, and he will be greatly missed by them.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his sweetheart and wife of 50+ years, Rita Gillespie; and his granddaughter, Erin Doyle. He is survived by his children: Louise Lunsford (Al) of Pa., Kathleen Smart of Pa, Rita Platt (Bob) Milford, De, Richard Gusovius (Tina) of Inwood, Wv, Janine Doyle (Stuart) of Gloucester City, NJ; his grandchildren: Wesley Wheeler, John Doyle, Jr., Dennis Platt, Erik Doyle, Elizabeth Gusovius, and Stuart Reckard, Jr; his sisters: Dorothy Longo (Donald) of Egg Harbor, NJ, and Mae Gillespie; his many nieces and nephews; and his loyal canine companion & sidekick, Baby Rosie, the Bichon-Yorkie Poo.

William F Gillespie III, Age 67 of Greenville DE passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2004. Bill was born June 12, 1936 in Chicago, IL. He attended The Hotchkiss School, graduating in 1954. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Yale University in 1958 and a master’s in chemical engineering in 1960. He played varsity baseball for Yale in 1956, ’57 and ’58. Bill joined E.I. duPont de Nemours & Co. in 1960 and served in managerial positions in numerous departments until retiring in 1984. He began a second career as a financial consultant in 1985 when he founded Gillespie Associates Inc., an investment advisory firm. Mr. Gillespie continued in the investment business and was employed by RBC Dain Rauscher at the time of his death. He served as trustee of The Hotchkiss School and was a long serving member of the board of trustees of the Brandywine Conservancy and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware. Bill was an avid golfer and belonged to the Vicmead Hunt Club in Wilmington DE, Chechessee Creek Club in Okatie, SC and the Old Tabby Links in Spring Island, SC. In addition, he was a member of the U.S. Seniors Golf Association. Bill was also a member of the Wilmington Club and a brother in St. Anthony Hall, Sigma ’55. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cherry Copeland Gillespie; son, Brook J. Gillespie; daughter, Sally Boettger and her husband, Scott; and daughter, Emily. A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 17, 2004, at 11:30 am at Christ Church Christiana Hundred in Green-ville. Burial will be private.
