James “Jim” Gillespie 78, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born in Georgia in 1945. He moved to Colorado when he was eleven years old and put down roots in Colorado Springs with his family where he spent the rest of his days. Jim went to St. Mary’s Catholic High School. There he met the love of his life, Carolyn Floyd at the young age of 15. They were married in 1964 and recently celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary in November.
Jim spent his younger years coaching basketball at Sacred Heart and working as a referee for Parks and Recreation. He went to UCCS for a number of years, and eventually started a career at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) in Civil Service as a Contract Manager. He spent 30 years working in Civil Service. In 2005, Jim began work for the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA). He retired in 2010. His charming personality and skillful networking made him a valued employee and friend. When Jim was 21 years old, he discovered the second love of his life—Golf. At night, he practiced hitting hundreds of golf balls in his basement, honing his skills for the game. Jim was a celebrated member of the USAFA Eisenhower Golf Club, where he spent many years in the Eisenhower Men’s Golf Association (EMGA) as a Charter Member and a “regular” on the golf course. His passion for the sport led to years of customizing golf clubs for himself and his friends. He was a talented and dedicated player.
Jim and Carolyn had three daughters during their marriage; Amy, Erin, and Sarah. Jim is survived by his wife Carolyn and his daughters Amy Adkins (Ed), Erin Gillespie, and Sarah Evans (Philip). He has four beautiful grandchildren (Taylor, Devin, Finnigan, and Asher) and numerous extended family and friends. Jim Gillespie enjoyed old music, classic crooners, good food and hearty laughter. He loved his family and his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. His presence on this Earth will be greatly missed.

Lauren Renee Gillespie, beloved daughter, sister, and fiancé, died Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at her home in Montrose, Colorado. Lauren was born on Leap Day, February 29, 1988 in Buena Park, California. Lauren was an avid animal lover and in 2016 she graduated from Front Range Community College as a registered Veterinary Technician. She touched the lives of many and will continue to live on in their hearts – remembered as a smart, headstrong, and caring young woman who loved her family, friends, and animals. She is survived by her mother, Donna Slattery, fiancé Caleb Cramer, brother Jason Gillespie, sister in law Devon Naples, father Rodrick Gillespie, grandparents William and Carolyn Gillespie, and her dogs Jackson and Oliver. A memorial service to celebrate Laurens life will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday June 1, 2019 at Crippin Funeral Home chapel. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Crippin Funeral Home. Natalie Marie Gillespie, Natalie was born on January 6, 1931 and passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019. Natalie was a resident of Colorado at the time of passing. She traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska as a young woman with a dear friend, married an Air Force Staff Sergeant there, and had two children she loved dearly. Her memorial service was held Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Risen Lord Lutheran Church, Conifer Colorado at 5:00 p.m. Interment was at Bear Creek Lutheran Cemetery in Grand Meadow, Minnesota.
Norma Jean Gillespie, June 1, 1928 – February 6, 2013 Norma Jean Gillespie died February 6 at Penrose Hospital. She was a Registered Nurse and a long time Manitou Springs resident. She struggled for 13 years with pulmonary hypertension and for the last several years, three other major health problems.
She was born June 1, 1928 in Sheldon, Iowa, the only child of Jacob and Kathryn Kuiper. She was a graduate of Sheldon High School and Junior College, St. Luke School of Nursing, and St. Francis University. She worked as a Registered Nurse in several states, including 8 years at Penrose Hospital. She was an avid reader.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Lyle Gillespie; a daughter, Ann Przybylski of Manitou Springs; a son, Guy Gillespie of Colorado Springs; and grandchildren: Courtney and Sam Przybylski.
A graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Crystal Valley Cemetery in Manitou Springs, Colorado.

Otis Thompson Gillespie died July 31, 2004 at his home on the Blue Sky Ranch in Penrose, Colorado. He was born Dec 25, 1907 in Albany, Missouri to James Albert and Minnie Esther (Simmons) Gillespie. Otis had travelled with his parents as a five year old from Missouri to Morgan Co, Colorado in 1913 by covered wagon over a period of six weeks. The family settled in Old Colorado City in 1920 and then to Beaver Park in 1925. Otis graduated from Penrose High School in 1926. He worked the wheat harvest in Kansas and toiled in the Texas oil fields, then returned to Penrose to settle into life as a rancher/farmer. He worked at a cement plant in Portland in 1937 and retired in 1969. He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant son, Kirk, his parents, 2 brothers Marion and Forrest, and a sister Adeline Cunningham. Otis is survived by a daughter Patricia, 2 granddaughters, 1 grandson, 3 ggranddaughters, 1 ggrandson, sister Martha Irwin. Cremation in Florence, Colorado.

Patricia Ann Gillespie. A celebration of life memorial service for longtime Lamar resident, Patricia Anne Gillespie, affectionately known to her family and friends as Pat, was held at 10:30AM on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the Lamar First Presbyterian Church, Lamar, Colorado.. The celebration continued with one of Pat’s favorite church gatherings: a potluck! Per Pat’s request cremation has taken place. Patricia Anne “Pat” Gillespie was born on September 18, 1933 in Oneonta, New York to Elton F.S. and Marjory (Chapell) Shaver and passed away peacefully at her home in Lamar, Colorado on October 6, 2021 at the age of 88.She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Carol Sue Higgins and her dearly loved and loving husband Duane Edward Gillespie.
Pat is survived by her sons Rory (Karen) Gillespie and Keith (Marcia) Gillespie, as well as by her grandchildren Nathaniel (Katharina) Gillespie, Hilah Gillespie, Jonathan (Amanda) Gillespie and Evan Gillespie and great-grandsons Joshua and Zachary Gillespie.
