Jarrius Mikel Gillespie, US Veteran. was born in Columbus, MS on April 25, 1998. At an early age, he played little league sports, participating in football and baseball. Jarrius was a 2016 graduate of New Hope High School. While in high school he was member of the New Hope Trojans football team for four years. After high school, he attended Alcorn State University. At Alcorn, he was a member of the Alcorn State Braves Battalion ROTC. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2017. He was also employed with Harpole construction, Kroger, and the commissary at the CAFB.  Jarrius enjoyed having a good time and was always the life of the party. He had a love for music, DJing, and fishing. He was adored by both his grandmothers and family. Jarrius enjoyed helping his grandmothers and anyone in need of help.

Jarrius departed this life on March 22, 2022 in Lorman, MS near Alcorn State University.  Jarrius is preceded in death by his special uncle, Charles Saffore. Jarrius’s memories will forever be cherished by: his mother, Daphne Miller; father, Jarrod Gillespie (Tarhonda); his daughter, London Grace Gillespie; his siblings, De’Ajon Miller, Braylen Miller and Kyleran Miller all of Columbus, MS, Nyla Gillespie, Destiny Gillespie, and Kayden Gillespie all of Jackson, MS; his maternal grandparents, Linda and Joseph Howard, and paternal grandparents Linda Gillespie and Don Gillespie; his great-grandmother, Emma Gillespie; special aunt, Shereen Mitchell; his maternal aunts; Gwendolyn Gibbs, Bronzella Hughes, Valerie Moody, Lashonda Mosley, Regina Maxwell, and paternal aunt, Corliss Gillespie; his cousins whom were raised as siblings, Christopher Saffore, Karsha Saffore, and Aaliyah Saffore; and a host of many other relatives and friends. Visitation April 1, 2022 2:00 to 6 pm at Carter’s Funeral Services, Columbus, Mississippi. Funeral Sat, April 2nd at West Lowndes High School 644 South Frontage Road, Columbus.,

Leomia Gillespie, 75, died August 12, 2009, at Aberdeen, Mississippi.  She was a member of Baptist Grove Missionary Church in Prairie, MS. Survivors include a son Percy Gillespie, a daughter Shenna Morrow; a brother Ray Fox; five sisters: Susanna Morrow, Lizzie Lee Walker; Rose Lee Hines, Maxine Madison and Martha Heard; and 3 grandchildren. Services were held at the Baptist Church. Burial was at Baptist Gove Cemetery. Arrangements by Belle Memorial Home.

Nannie Katherine Gillespie, 91 died January 2, 2003 at the Sardis Community Nursing Home in Sardis, Mississippi. She was born March 3, 1911 in Pleasant Grove to William R and Katie Crawford Gillespie. She was a retired bookkeeper with F. W Klyce Co, and was a member of the Sardis Presbyterian Church. There are no known surviving  members. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Moore Funeral Home Chapel.

Norma Jean Welch Gillespie, died April 28, 2020, age 80. She  passed away on April 28, 2020, in Columbus, MS at the Plantation Place Nursing Facility. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church where she once served as President of the Usher Board, later serving as Vice President, Sunday School Secretary, WMU on the Mother Board Finance, Building Community, and other various positions.

She Loved God, her family, working in the church. She had a passion for reading her Bible, gardening, taking care of her dog,
traveling, and volunteering. A retired employee of the North Mississippi Medical Center where she was a member of the Center
Volunteer service, a volunteer for Lift Incorporated Head Start Program, member of Retired Service Volunteer Program, member of Woodmen of the World Fraternal Lodge #0130, a former partner in hope at St. Jude Children Research Hospital, a member of Eastern Star Foster Chapter #515. She was known as Mother and Grandma to so many children in the community.

She leaves to mourn her passing her three daughters, Kim Brooks, Karen Jones and Terri Bell all of Tupelo, MS., one son, Darryl
Gillespie of Seattle, WA, her three siblings, Priscilla Lang, Larry T. Welch, and Charles N. Welch all of East St. Louis, Ill., thirteen
grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and other relatives
and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tillman Welch and Ellen Morris Welch, one son Kevin Todd, her grandparents Elbert
Morris and Dezzie Hersey Morris.

Roy Bernard Gillespie, April 23 , 1929 –  Feb 9, 2022. Roy Gillespie of Grand Junction, Colorado passed away at the V.A. Medical Center in Grand Junction , on Wednesday., Feb. 9, 2022. He was 92 years old. He had resided in Grand Junction for the past 2 years, and had lived in Orchard City prior to that. A graveside service was held at Eckert Cemetery, 2:00 p.m. on Sat. February 19, 2022 with Bob Hillyer officiating.

Roy was born on April 23, 1929 in Panola County, Mississippi to B. B. and Lucille (Wright) Gillespie. Roy spent his childhood with his four siblings in south Memphis. Roy served in both the Army and Air Force. He had been an office equipment salesman. On Aug. 17, 1973 he married Lorena Jones in Hayward, CA. Lorena passed away on July 3, 2019 in Orchard City, Colo. Roy enjoyed restoring old cars. At the age of 92 he was looking at an MG in California and had wanted his niece to go pick it up for him.

His survivors include a brother, Maurice Gillespie, of South Haven, Miss. as well as several nieces and nephews.
