Dr Donald Leo Gillespie, died Oct 5, 2006 at his home, age 98. He was born Dec 4, 1907 to Patrick and Mary (Mulhern) Gillespie on the family farm. He was educated in that rural community, and stayed two years on the farm following graduation from High School in Whykoff, Minnesota. He attended St Thomas University in St Paul, Minnesota and completed his medical training at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1933. His residency in Pediatrics was done at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. In 1937 he took a position with the Murray Clinic as Butte’s first pediatrician.
He met Mildred Nevin at the Murray Hospital and they were married Sept 11, 1940 in Immaculate Conception Church. They raised three children. Don pioneered the first use of antibiotics, exchange transfusion in infancy, and neonatal air transport. Don was a founding member and first President of the Montana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was also President of the Murray Clinic and Chief of Staff at St James Hospital in Butte.
In retirement he enjoyed being at the family cabin at Georgetown Lake with his family and grandchildren. He was a devoted Minnesota sports fan until the very end.
Dr Gillespîe was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, their son, Bill, and his three sisters, Irene (Charles) MacMurtry, Catherine (Leo) Donovan, and Alice (Art) Sadler. Donald is survived by his son and daughter in law, Dr Donald N and Mary Gillespie of Missoula, daughter and son in law, Charlotte and Edward Simoniche of Butte, grandchildren and famlies Chris and Michelle Simoniche of Portland, Oregon, Donald J and Trish Gillespie, Kaitlyn and Colin of Helena, Dr Steve and Jeannie Simoniche, Carolyn, Luke, and Anna of Austin, Texas, Michael and Destiny Simoniche of Centreville, Georgia. Kathleen and Ben Ostrom, Mac and Imogene of Seattle , Megan and James Thompson, Nicholas and Margaret of Seattle, and Nichole and Dan Flowers of Reno, Nevada.
Visitation at Immaculate Conception Church in Butte Monday 9:00 am, followed by a funeral mass at 10 am.

Ellen Marie Gillespie On the evening of Friday, March 21, 2025, Ellen Marie (Berg) Gillespie passed away peacefully in her home. Ellen was born in Butte on December 8, 1933, to Edwin John and Agnes Filimena (George) Berg. Ellen enjoyed growing up in Butte with her sister Dorothy Jean (Dode) who was 10 months younger than her. She always lamented that she could not pick on Dode during the 2 months of the year that they were the same age. A highlight of Ellen’s youth was when she and her sister traveled with the Butte High School band to march in the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California. She graduated from Butte High School in 1951. For a few years following high school, Ellen worked as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell. On September 10, 1953, Ellen married her beloved husband Raymond William (Ray) Gillespie and moved to live with him and raise her family on the ranch South of Whitehall that Ray’s grandfather had homesteaded in 1903. Ellen and Ray loved ranch life, raising sheep, pigs, and Hereford cattle. There they raised their 4 boys, Donald (Don), William (Bill), Ronald (Ron) and Emmett. Part of the rearing of their boys got them involved in 4-H and the two of them helped form the B-Y’s 4-H club which is the oldest chartered 4-H club in the state. Ellen helped in 4-H for several years teaching sewing, cake decorating and many other projects. She always looked forward to the 4-H Junior rodeo each year in May, as well as the Twin Bridges fair. Many can probably remember being hauled around to different events in the back of her suburban. Ellen liked to garden and was an avid seamstress and homemaker. She loved to can and make quilts and decorate cakes. She made numerous wedding and birthday cakes for her family and friends. Ellen was fond of dogs, especially Boston Terriers, which she raised for several years. Most of all, she loved children, especially her boys
.Ellen moved from the ranch in 1993, and Ray lived the last of his years in the Sheridan nursing home where he passed away on December 14, 1995. Her world was shaken again on October 20, 1987, when her son, Ron died in Wyoming. After moving off the ranch, Ellen’s love of children led her to become a foster grandma at the Whitehall School where she served in that capacity for 18 years.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Agnes Berg, Ray, her husband, her son, Ron, her sister, Dode and Dode’s husband Elroy Hunt, her sister in law Judy (Gillespie) Stratton and Judy’s husband Bill Stratton and her nephew Robert (Bob) Hunt. Ellen is survived by her sons, Don (Bonna) Gillespie, Bill (Wendy Forman), and Emmett (Terri) Gillespie, her grandchildren Samantha (Tony) Vetter, BJ (Kristy) Gillespie, Sherry (Mike) Holt, Roni Lynn (Jim) Simon, Brody (Tia) Gillespie, Derrington (Bri) Gillespie, Deontae (Celeste) Gillespie, Kenisyn Gillespie and Kienna Gillespie. Her great grandchildren, Isaac and Aleska Vetter, Peyton Holt, Trenton Gillespie, Braxton Williams, Buster Simon, Raymond and Evie Gillespie, Gideon Gillespie, and Taela Gillespie. She is also survived by the daughter she always wanted, Barb Sunderland, and her husband Bob. There will be a viewing and rosary service at K and L Mortuary in Whitehall on Friday, March 28 at 6:00p.m. Then on Saturday, March 29 there was a memorial services and a celebration of life at Saint Teresa’s Church at 10:00 a.m.

Katherine Alice Gillespie (Gibbons), a.k.a. Mike, was born in Lewistown in September of 1932 to Jim and Ruth Gibbons. Mike was number 4 of 9 children (Margaret, Laura, Doris, Mike, Ellen, Nancy, Marion, Jim, and Tom). She attended school north of Winifred at the Gibbons’ Whiskey Ridge Ranch until 4th grade, and then the family acquired a winter home in Winifred where she graduated from high school. She attended the College of Great Falls for 2 years and then completed her BA while teaching school. Mike accepted a job in Edgar, MT and taught there for 2 years. She then taught in Bridger for a year while continuing her education.
She married Tom Gillespie in June of 1955. They were blessed with 6 children during their 20-year marriage, Karen (Dave), Diane, Sue (Kevin), Marie, TJ, and Sheryl (Eric). Mike also had 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren who were the light of her life!
Mike taught at St. Peter and Paul School from 1968-1973 and then accepted a job at Benton Lake School for a year. She continued her teaching at Holy Family/Holy Spirit and retired after 23 accomplished years. She also tutored over 80 different children through the years at her kitchen table. Beginning in 2010, Mike became a Foster Grandparent (affectionately known as Gramma Mike) in elementary school programs for over 10 years.
She sang with the Sweet Adelines for many years and performed in numerous programs and competitions. She also worked in the dining room at the National Guard, cleaned houses, babysat, and did other small jobs in addition to teaching full time. Mike passed away peacefully on August 13, 2022. A memorial service was held at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church (201 44th St. S, Great Falls) on Friday, August 19, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. with final interment at Calvary Cemetery in Lewistown, MT on August 19 at 4:00 p.m.

Patrick Allen Gillespie born August 13, 1943 to Mary Olive Shepherd Gillespie & Harold E Gillespie in Great Falls, Montana. Pat grew up in Great Falls and earned his degrees in Oregon. Summa Cum Laude, while earning a Bachelor of Arts degree at Linfield College. That wasn’t all that he earned there. He also acquired Masters degrees in Teaching and in Business Administration at Portland State and Willamette University, respectively. Always learning and helping others.
He also met and earned the love, devotion and teamwork of his wife, Dianna Louise Judson at Linfield College. They were married August 29, 1965 and were married for 58 wonderful years. After Linfield and his wedding, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He may not have earned a degree for that, but he received quite an education. It probably helped in being a great father and leader of his family, in addition to his strong will and calm, during crises. He also got his first taste of computers in San Diego and Barstow where he was stationed.
He taught for a few years and then moved toward his love of technology and computers. He used that love and his education and degrees, at OHSU and for the State of Oregon in the Senior & Disabled Services Division as a Budget Analyst. He also volunteered for his church, Trinity United Methodist Church and the other Methodist churches in the area, in many capacities, including as Treasurer, for many years. In his free time, yes he managed his life well enough to have some, he enjoyed golfing, reading and computers.
He is survived by his wife, Dianna, his two kids Sean and Heather. His 4 Grandchildren (Aleisha; Jackie; Olivia and William) and his Great Granddaughter (Aspen). He is also survived by his brother, Jim Gillespie and his wife, Kathy as well as his kids Michelle (Grant) and Teresa a(Robert) and their Grandkids. Also his brother in law Don Judson and his wife Rhonda and their kids Don (Kimberly) and Chris (Lisa) and their Grandkids.

Ralph Edward Gillespie, 73, of Shelby, MT, died unexpectedly on March 23rd, 2026. He was born November 16th, 1952, to Richard and Helen (Sewald) Gillespie in Kalispell, MT. They later moved to the family farmhouse Northeast of Kevin. After attending Mountain View Elementary in a one room school house, Ralph graduated from North Toole County High School in Sunburst in 1971. In high school Ralph spent his time working on the family farm and causing mayhem with his friends. He then went on to get his Master Welder Certificate at a trade school in Denver. Ralph returned to Kalispell where he met his wife, Linda. He sold Kirby Vacuums for a few years and then went on to be the manager of Payless shoes for 3 years between Kalispell & Missoula.
He married Linda Olson, the love of his life, in Kalispell on May 14th, 1983 and they raised Linda’s 3 children: Tammy, Todd and Melissa. They returned home in 1987 where he worked as an Oilfield Pumper for 38 years and retired from FX Drilling in March 2023. Ralph was an avid book reader. Especially his favorite series, Harry Potter. You could find him watching reruns of Gunsmoke and the occasional John Wayne movie. In the summer you would find Ralph at his happiest camping with Linda up in Apgar. He also enjoyed taking their dog Max for car rides.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Helen Gillespie and his brother Danny Gillespie. Ralph is survived by his wife, Linda; Children, Tammy (Keven) Peltier, Todd (Amanda) Howell, Melissa Howell; Siblings, Wanda Boswell, Barbara (Gary) Harmon, Joe Gillespie and Caroline Gillespie; 14 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews; and extended family of friends, too numerous to name. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 1; at 3pm at Asper Funeral Home. With closing at Mountain View Cemetery. Reception followed at the Mint Bar.
Rebecca Lynn Gillespie passed away September 1, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with blood cancer. Rebecca was born the second oldest of five children to James and Betty Gillespie in Helena, Montana on October 27, 1957. Rebecca grew up and lived until she died in the family home on the west side of Helena with her mother Betty. The home was built by her father James Gillespie and his brother-in-law Ted Hoffer. Rebecca graduated from Capital High School in 1976. Her class was the second graduating class from Capital High School. Rebecca’s working career consisted of restaurant and hotel work. Her first job was doing dishes at the 4B’s restaurant. She worked there until it closed in 1994. After 4B’s she did dishes at County Harvest restaurant until it closed in 2004. The County Harvest crew was like a family and she enjoyed working there most of all. After the closure of County Harvest, she worked in a few other kitchens until finding employment with her mother at the Wingate Hotel. She worked there until two years before her passing as a laundry attendant. Rebecca never shied away from work and was always willing to pitch in where she could.
Rebecca had many hobbies. She likes to play the lottery and Keno. She also enjoyed texting and talking with family and friends on Facebook, but her favorite hobby was watching Football. Rebecca was a die-hard Denver Broncos fan. You would never see her without some sort of Denver Broncos clothing on. If the Denver Broncos made it, she had it. Rebecca was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents James William and Mary Gillespie. Her maternal grandparents George and Leona Anderson, and her dearly missed father James William Gillespie.
Rebecca is survived by her beloved mother Betty Jean Gillespie, brother James (Juli) Gillespie, brother Michael Gillespie, brother Brooke (Sheryl) Gillespie, brother Bruce (Andine) Woodruff and sister Jennifer (Zhaun) Paddock. Along with many nieces and nephews. Rebecca has requested no service to be held and will be laid to rest at a later date.
Robert Arthur Gillespie Sr, Aug 6, 1934 — Apr 6, 2023. Robert of Darby, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023, age 88 in the Granite County Medical Center in Philipsburg from complications of COVID.
Bob was born August 6, 1934, to Robert E. and Elizabeth (McLeod) in Townsend, Montana. He met and married the love of his life, Alberta Kay Thurston, on December 20, 1963. Together they raised three children, Robert Jr., Tammy, and Tina. They were just a few days short of celebrating their 51st anniversary at the time of her passing in 2014. Bob supported his family with his career as a log-scaler with the U.S. Forest Service. He also was a medic during the summers for the fire crews and volunteered for the Darby Fire and Ambulance crew.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alberta; an aunt; and a half-brother. He is survived by his son, Robert (Sheena) Gillespie, of Darby; daughters, Tammy (Lonnie) Wright, of Darby and Tina (Violette) Hengeveld, of Hamilton; brother, William Gillespie, of Manhattan; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. A celebration of his life was held, Friday, April 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m., in the Daly-Leach Community Room, Hamilton, Montana
