Green Bay – JAMES J BYRNES (88) of Green Bay, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on February 12, 2018. He was born April 13, 1929 in Chicago to John and Agnes Gillespie Byrnes. Jim was married to Delores Monica and divorced in 1984. He married Alice Hockemeyer in 1986. Jim served six plus years in the Army, in the Far East, Japan and Korea, was a life member of the De Pere VFW Post 2113 and a member of their Honor Guard. He was employed for 30 years with RA Stearn, Inc, Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Sturgeon Bay, and until his final retirement in 2003 with Jamestown Metal Marine in Boca Raton, FL. Jim was active in the Masonic Fraternity and served as Grand Master of Masons in Wisconsin in 1982. He was a member and past presiding officer of many Masonic related organizations. Jim’s hobbies included Amateur Radio WA9PFS (Ex N4NHM) and researching his family Genealogy. He received dual Irish citizenship in 1993. Jim spent his spare time assisting in reorganizing and enlarging the Northeast Wisconsin Masonic Library and Museum at the Green Bay Masonic Center.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents John and Agnes (Gillespie) Byrnes of Chicago and brothers John Charles Byrnes, JR. (USMC WWII Siapan) and Thomas E. Byrnes. Survivors include his wife, Alice; his extended family, Eric (Virginia) Hockemeyer, Tom (Ann Hockemeyer) Fleming, Sean and Kyle; John (Marilyn Cramer) Beattie, Scott (Amy) Beattie, Emily (Cramer) Hancock, and two children, Ed (Margie Keeene) Byrnes of Sturgeon Bay and Kathryn (Richard) Chodara of Waukesha, WI and grandson Jason Chodara. William G Gillespie 1857 – 1922 Wisconsin
William “Bill” Gillespie, 74, Suamico, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at a local hospital. He was born Feb. 19, 1936, in Antigo, Wis., to Brack and Gladys (Duquette) Gillespie. After graduating from Antigo High School and attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he served his country in the U.S. Army at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. On Dec. 27, 1954, Bill was united in marriage to Jeanne Keen. In 1960, Bill began his 25 year career in the financial field. He later opened and operated “The Hang Up”, a wildlife art and framing gallery for many years until his retirement. Bill was an avid sportsman; enjoying all shooting sports. He especially enjoyed the many trips he took out West with his shooting buddies. He was an active member and past president of The Brown County Sportsman’s Club and was a member of the Nicolet Gun Club. He sponsored wildlife organizations including Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Ruffed Grouse Society, Trout Unlimited and The Brown County Conservation Alliance, just to name a few.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jeanne; two children and their spouses, Julie and Dan Bramschreiber, Pulaski; Brack and Sherry Gillespie, Suamico; four grandchildren, Nina Jeanne and Bo William Bramschreiber, Brynn and AJ Gillespie; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Reece William Bramschreiber; two brothers, Dr. Calvin Gillespie and Jack Gillespie; and a nephew, J.B. Gillespie.
Friends called at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Veteran’s Honors were presented at 6:30 p.m. Saturday followed by the Service of Remembrance.
