Her Miller Family History Summary

Mabel Alveria Miller b April 15, 1915. Died February 18, 1994 in her 79th year. A housewife and mother, and lovely Christian woman.

m Sam Gillespie (1875-1954). Lived in Scarborough where he had a garden tractor manufacturing plant. Moved family to Coe Hill in 1950.

  • Their Children:  Sam, Norma, Glenn

Daughter of:    Frank Miller  of Toronto (1887 – 1956) Toronto  Policeman from Simcoe County.

Frank married Martha Harvey (1878-1920) in 1914 and they had 3 children  Mabel, Ida Winnifred, Elsie Eileen   Family lived in Sunnidale/Staynor area of Simcoe County near Wasaga Beach before moving to the City of Toronto where Frank became a policeman (Frank had 2 other marriages, no surviving children) Eileen was a baby when her mother died of breast cancer and Frank gave her to a Christian couple he knew in Stayner, the Siders, who adopted her and changed her last name.

Eileen was a missionary in Nigeria, Africa, then married a farmer, Ken Collins to farm in Sunnidale Twp. One daughter, Ruth, who lost her mother, age 3, to the same cancer that killed her grandmother.  The family burials are in Staynor Union, and Ebenezer Church Cemetery.

Frank was son of David Miller (1853-1927) born in Markham, a farmer who married Alfreda Corey (1855 – 1931). They had 3 sons: Herbert (never married. Died California), William, Frank. This couple farmed near Wasaga Beach, but moved to Toronto and then separated.  Alfreda helped raise Mom (Mabel) until Frank remarried Martha Pearson, who outlived him.

David Miller was the son of Jonas Miller  (1825-1903)

Jonas Miller married Mary Knicely (1822-1875) in 1846, and they farmed in Markham Twp. York Region.  They had 12 children including: Samuel, David (6th) Elizabeth, John, Francis Miller. He remarried Mary Reaman an had 4 more children.

Jonas Miller was the son of Abraham Miller 1799-1847 from Germany who settled near Woodbridge, Ontario.

Abraham Miller married Susannah Byer 1800 – 1833.  Her tombstone is still standing in a quiet cemetery along the main highway near Stayner,  west of the settlement. Nothing is known of their life together, but it was pioneering times in the whole region of Simcoe County.  They had five children.
