Family History:
Harold Henry Johnson was the son of Henry Johnson & Adele Schumacher. The oldest couple, Henry & Adele Johnson, were the original owners of the homestead that is now The Red Eagle Campground in Coe Hill. They also are buried in St Michael’s Cemetery. Harold Johnson (1887-1954) was the station master in Coe Hill just before and during World War II. He died of cancer and is buried in St Michael’s Cemetery.
Mildred McIlvena Johnson (1894-1996, 102 yrs) sold the house on Station Street in the 1960s after her husband, Harold Johnson, the stationmaster, passed away with cancer.
Harold & Mildred Johnson had a son, Edward (Ted) Barclay Johnson, born April 18, 1921. Ted’s childhood home was on Station Street down by the Red Eagle on the left, a white house with closed-in porch, later own by Etta & Ira Smith. He became a soldier in World War II (see his military history under Coe Hill Soldiers) but was severely wounded. He came home to Coe Hill to recover.
Ted bought a cottage on the Beach Road facing Wollaston Lake, but moved to Peterborough to raise his family. There are happy memories of summers in Coe Hill at that cottage. Ted died April 29, 2004, age 83 yrs, and is buried in St Michael’s Cemetery. His wife and her parents are buried in Tara Cemetery, near Owen Sound.
Children of Edward Johnson includes: Judy, Andrea (her wedding photo with her Dad).
