1700s

1712 George Gillespie, born at Glasgow during 1683, Educated at Glasgow University, Presbyterian clergyman and author. Emigrated from Scotland to New England (USA) in 1712. (age 29e) Ordained in 1713. Served in New Jersey. Rector of White Clay Creek, Delaware from 1713 until 1741. Died on Jan 2, 1760. 1720 George Lewis Gillespie emigrated from Scotland to America during 1720, landing at Leesburg, Virginia. Settled in Tennessee (from Directory of Scottish Settlers in North America 1625-1825, Vol IV)

1739, June   Neil Gillespie, wife Mary Mcllpheder and children Gilbert , Angus, Also later had Daniel, Catherine, Neil. Sailed from ISLAY, ARGYLLSHIRE,  Argyllshire, Scotland to New York with large group of Islay settlers. Bound for NY and Wood Creek on the Hudson River. Settled 1763 Argyle Twp, Albany County, New York. Granted 350 acres on the Argyle Patent, NY.  Neil Gillespy, yeoman on the Wallkill Precinct, Ulster Co, NY, probate March 31, 1769 NY.

1741, Aug 5    Mary Gillispie, person ordered for transportation to America from CO DONEGAL,  Ireland for grand larceny

1741 to 1810  Major John Gillespie of Glasgow to New York. Justice of the Peace.

Between 1763 and 1775 there was further emigrations of about 1,300 people from the Isle of Islay, Argyll, Scotland to North Carolina because of the Seven Years War. Some moved north into Canada in later years, including Gillespies.

1772  Alexander Gillispey to Pennsylvania

1774, May 19 to July 22  William Gelespie, 20, farmer from STIRLING, on board the brigantine, Matty, from Greenock, Scotland to New York. He was travelling with a group that settled in Barnet, VERMONT. (Source: Ship Passenger Lists New York and New Jersey 1600-1825 by Carl Boyer). Scottish immigrant.

1775   John Gillespie 25, born 1750, a farmer from Downe (alternative spelling Doune), Perthshire, Scotland emigrated from Greenock, Renfrewshire to Georgia on the ship Georgia July 21 –

1775  Thomas Gillespie, age 20 born 1755 a farmer, previous residence Downe, Alternative spelling Doune.  Perthshire, Scotland, emigrated from Greenock, Renfrewshire to Georgia, USA on the ship Georgia  July 14 – 21st. – age 20 Purpose: “too high rent:

1779 March 25 Official pass from Superintendant of Indian Affairs,  Nova Scotia, for Galespie to and from the Gulf of St Lawrence “being employed by me on the King’s Service

1785    Alexander Gillespie from Ireland to Washington Co, Georgia, Note: Later moved to Mississippi.

1787   Jas Gillespie to Wilkes, Georgia

1798   Henry Gillespie to Philadelphia, PA

1798   John Gillespie arrived in Philadelphia, PA

1798  Robert Gillespie arrived in Philadelphia, PA

1798 Robert Gillespy departed Portsmouth Sept 24, 1798. 81st Regiment of Foot. Sergeant.  Military Troops on board. Died at sea  November.
