Bryannna Gillespîe, It is with great sorrow we must announce the passing of our beloved daughter and sister, Bryanna May Gillespie, who was taken in a tragic car accident on November 19th, 2015, near Ponoka, Alberta. Bryanna was born on December 4th, 1986 to delighted parents Tim and Karen Gillespie in Kelvington, Saskatchewan. Tim, Karen and Bryanna lived in Kelvington for the first year of her life, where Bryanna would often be found swooning the patrons in her parents’ restaurant with her incredible cuteness and big yellow riding duck.
In 1987, the family moved to Birsay, Saskatchewan where they welcomed baby brother, Timothy Jr. The growing family happily resided there until 1990 when they moved to what became their home for many years, the Crowsnest Pass. Not long after their move, Bryanna’s youngest sibling, Tina joined the family. Bryanna was a precocious child, bright, beautiful and full of life. She was very active in school activities and sports, from playing flute in the school band, to volleyball, basketball, skiing and snowboarding. She especially cared for baseball and was always willing to sacrifice her body to make the play. She was also known to be a bit of a pool shark. Her travels took her many places; visiting an exchange student in Japan, to Toronto when she saw Pope John Paul II, she visited Los Angeles, and took countless road trips across western Canada visiting many loved ones along the way. She cared for all animals, and volunteered at the SPCA.
Bryanna planned from childhood to be a hair stylist and achieved her goal in 2005 when she got her Journeyman’s certificate. She predominantly made her living hairdressing in salons spanning from Lethbridge to Fort McMurray, but beyond working as a stylist, Bryanna excelled in many different fields. She worked in various positions in restaurants, pubs, dabbled in dry walling, painting, and even tried her hand at welding. Bryanna was pretty much willing to try anything and worked hard at everything she did. From a young age, Bryanna was always surrounded by friends, which of course continued into adulthood. Few people could connect with those around them as she did, whether it was one of her dearest friends or someone she had just met. Bryanna passionately defended anyone who needed it, especially those closest to her, but including complete strangers if the situation warranted it. She had a keen mind, a giant heart, and shone brightly in every room she entered. She had a large family, extending from the one she was born into, to the one she built herself. Bryanna had many friends across the world that can only be considered as soul family. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
Bryanna is survived by her parents, Tim and Karen; brother, Tim; sister, Tina; her beloved dog, Shalayla; her uncles, John and Pat Gillespie; aunts, Maureen (Wayne) Hagen, Lorraine (Ed) Hetherington, Marlee (Glen) Sherwood; cousins, Troy and Courtney Hagen, Stephanie Oxenrider; great aunts and uncles, Karen Gillespie, Marilyn Gillespie, Wayne Gillespie, Percy (Janet) Gillespie, Jack and Emily Currie, Bruce and Darlene Currie, Fern Underwood, Connie and Dave Reddicop, Jim and Donna Lock, Dale and Bonnie Lock, Ben (Aileen) Lock, Ruby Lock, Ruth Lock, Sharon and Harold Lyons, Val and Wayne Mayo; many second cousins and lots of honorary aunts, uncles and “friend-family”.
Bryanna is predeceased by her grandparents, Ella and John Gillespie, as well as May and Milton Oxenrider, Kathy Lock, Allison Lyons; and uncles, Bruce Lloyd and Lenard Lock.
A Memorial Service was held at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church (13126 – 21 Ave., Blairmore, AB) on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 1:00pm with Bryanna’s great uncle, Harold Lyons officiating.

Charles Alexander Gillespie. November 17, 1927 – May 26, 2018 On May 26th, 2018 our Lord and Savior called Charles Alexander (Charlie) Gillespie to come home. Charlie passed peacefully early Saturday morning at Points West Living at the age of 90 years. Charlie was born November 17, 1927 at Grande Prairie, Alberta. He grew up in the Hermit Lake area west of Grande Prairie. As the oldest of 4 children he was considered a notorious tease by his three younger sisters, a reputation he maintained with his children and grandchildren. Always the entrepreneur, Charlie owned a number of businesses in the Grande Prairie area through his lifetime but is perhaps best known as the face of “Big Daddy’s Vending” a company he purchased in 1986 with his son Bruce. Throughout the years Charlie did everything from bookkeeping to flipping burgers to filling vending machines. To his family, church, and community Charlie epitomized Christian values; he was a selfless, dependable and giving person who consistently put the needs of others before his own. Florence Margaret Gillespie (Rita) September 25, 1928 – November 7, 2019 . Rita was born September 25, 1928 in Cranbrook, British Columbia, to Florence and Joe Desrosiers. She grew up on the family’s ranch near Jaffray, B.C. As a child of the Great Depression in a family of 13, Rita learned the value of a dollar and hard work from a young age; values she instilled in her children and grandchildren. Loyalty, kindness to others, and not being wasteful, were gifts she passed down to those whose lives she touched.
In her early twenties Rita moved to Lethbridge where she attended college and met her future husband, Charlie Gillespie. Charlie and Rita were married in Cranbrook on May 17, 1952 and spent the next 66 years together. Shortly after they married the couple moved to Charlie’s hometown of Grande Prairie, Alberta where they raised their four children and lived the remainder of their lives.
Rita was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She always had time, a kind word, and a piece of homemade dessert for anyone that stopped in for a visit. Rita was fiercely loyal to all those she loved, including her dog Hercules. Although her home was in Grande Prairie, Rita continued to love British Columbia and spent time visiting her BC relatives as recently as this past summer.
Rita is survived by her four children: Bruce (Suzanne), Judy (Troy Tomchuck), Earl, and Alexa (Denis Rochette); grandchildren Jesse Dirom (Jessica), Kristin Dirom (Darren Wedge), Traci Dirom (Richard Howe), Myles Gillespie (Aarin), Calin Gillespie, Paige Rochette and Josie Rochette; great-grandsons Ashton Kennedy and Rylen Dirom ; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Charlie, brothers Frank, Roden, John, George, and Ernie; sisters Florence, Marie, Jo, Jean, and Betty.
A Celebration of Rita’s life took place at 11:00 a.m. on November 16, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 10407 100 Street Grande Prairie. I

His 35 year career consisted of postings around the province. He was first posted in Thorsby, AB, but after a short stay moved to Lethbridge where he met the love of his life Shelly Underschultz. When she was 21 years old they married in Edmonton, AB. In Russ’ words “I scooped her up before she had time to shop around,” and he soon after moved her up to a small town, Faust, AB, where they welcomed their first born, a son Justin.
Russ held his promise of moving close to a city and accepted a transfer to Leduc two years later. There Russ & Shelly welcomed two daughters, Amanda and Andrea. After seven yers in Leduc, Russ took postings in Peace River and Swan Hills.
During these years, Russ enjoyed all things in life, and taught his children that fun could be found everywhere; even in ten feet of snow. Russ grew his power tool collection, and found joy in taking on small household renovations, including building swingsets in every home the Gillespie’s lived in. Russ & Shelly moved to St. Albert in 1995, where they put down roots. He spent 35 of his 55 years with the RCMP, most proud of his time spent with the STO team. He retired on July 15, 2012.
