It was to Manitoba that Reeve and Isle of Islay Scot Malcolm Gillespie of Cannington visited his Islay relatives in 1881. This chart for Dominion Land Grants helps one visualize the location of the family farms of the people he visited. If all three of these charts for the Western Provinces are put side by side, one can more readily identify the locations for the earliest Gillespie settlements across the Prairie..(part of the charts would not transfer to these pages in which to do this.  However you could easily design your own, as I did using a horizontal line acros a page, with numbers,  representing area closed to the USA border, then vertical lines to show the distances north to the lots).
