Pat Gillespie, “King of Strabane” died August 2019 age 102. (August 25th posting on Belfast Telegraph website). Mr Gillespie was an ambassador for the town, serving as the Grand Marshall of the annual St Patrick’s Day parade and even turning on Strabane’s Christmas lights in 2017. Two years ago, the much-loved local character was inundated with messages of support from all over Northern Ireland and beyond after three masked forced their way into his Railway Street home. The gang held Pat in his chair while they ransacked his bedroom, searched his pockets and made off with a sum of cash, leaving him shocked and shaken. A fundraiser was held to buy a new security system for the centenarian, which managed to raise £1,400 in just four hours. Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph in the run up to his 101st birthday, Pat said the secret to long life was laughter and “keeping the brain ticking over”. His  death has taken place August 25th 2019 at Altnagelvin Hospital of Pat Gillespie (aged 102 years) `Glenview` 76 Railway Road, Strabane. Beloved husband of the late Eileen, much loved father of John, Betty, Evelyn, Jean, Pascal, Anne, Madeline,   and Joe and brother of the late Jean, Dan, Johnny, Jim, Theresa and Elizabeth. Robert George Gillespie (Robin) died August 28. 2021, peacefully at hospital, much-loved uncle to Marguerita, Allen and Marshall, dear brother-in-law to Mavis. Funeral service in St Macartin’s Cathedral, Enniskillen on Thursday 2nd September at 1.00 p.m. and afterwards to St John’s Parish Churchyard, Fivemiletown for interment.

Reposing at his sister, Marie Mc Evoy`s home, 8 Melvin View, Strabane on Tuesday (October 31st) from 11a.m. Funeral leaving his sister`s home on Wednesday (November 1st) at 9.20a.m.for Requiem Mass in St Mary`s Church, Melmount at 10a.m. Cremation afterwards in Lakelands Crematorium at 1p.m. Deeply regretted by his sorrowing sons, brother, sisters, nieces, nephews and family circle.

May 2017. Caledon, Co Tyrone:  Lady Gillespie, a horse trainer has died, aged 54 after a short illness. She leaves a husband and five children. Born in Switzerland in 1962 into one of the UK’s most aristocratic families, Lady Jane was the daughter of the sixth Earl of Caledon and the Baroness de Graevenitz.
