Emma A Gillespie 95, longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on November 28, 2015, surrounded by her family. She is survived by three children and their families; one sister; and many extended family members. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, 6:00 p.m., at FRENCH-University. Emma will be laid to rest with her husband in Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Virginia Gillespie (Ginger) 58, passed away May 26, 2015. She is survived by her children, Nathan Thompson, Kaleena LeClaire and husband, Ryan, former husband and good friend, William “Biff” Thompson, brother Charles Gillespie and wife, Frances, and their children Katie and Rachel, other family, Sherri Bingert and husband, John, Bill Richardson and his daughter, Shelby, Kathy House and husband Sean and their children, Andrew, Emily and Cobi; and life long friends, Sherri Stoner, Merry and Chuck Vaughn, Stacey and Stana Schleder and many extended family and friends, including her brothers and sisters from Arkansas. Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Virginia Gillespie. She was a graduate of Del Norte High School, attended UNM and Univ of Phoenix, and was a Clerk for the US Postal Service for almost 20 years. Ms. Gillespie was loyal to and loved her family, friends and her pets. She was fiercely protective of those in her inner circle. She left on the wings of an angel, placed gently in the hands of God. A Memorial Service was held Monday, June 22, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH – Lomas. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice, 8100 Constitution Blvd NE, Albuquerque in her name.

William “Bill” SORENSEN, 1933~2015 , 81, died in Grants, New Mexico Friday, June 5, 2015. Bill was born Sept. 18, 1933 in Moroni, Utah to Byron H. and Laverne Gillespie Sorensen. He grew up in Mammoth and Eureka, Utah and graduated from Tintic High School in 1951 and entered the Army in 1952.
Bill was honorably discharged in 1954 and went to work for Centennial Development Company. In 1963 he was promoted to project superintendent and in 1964 was in charge of special projects in Alaska for Bear Creek Mining Company. He later moved to Grants, New Mexico to work in the uranium mines. Bill being the true entrepreneur that he was left the mining business and in 1969 and formed a partnership with Francis W. McCabe and opened LaVentana Steakhouse in Grants, New Mexico. Bill took on many business ventures including a Santa Fe, NM liquor store, a second restaurant in Gallup, NM and IBC Records in Nashville, Tennessee. After the death of his partner Frank McCabe the partnership transferred to Frank’s wife Robin and continued until he formed a partnership with long-time employee and friend, Stephanie Matkovich. In 2002 they sold LaVentana and in 2006 opened the WOW Diner. Bill was a Grants City Councilman for many years and was a member of the New Mexico Amigos. Bill was instrumental in the formation of the Coyote Del Malpais Golf Course and helped to initiate the beautification of Grants by donating trees to be planted along Main Street (Route 66). Bill was a true gentleman, mentor and friend. Bill is survived by his brother Byron P. Sorensen of Provo, Utah. A Celebration of Bills Life was held at LaVentana Steakhouse in Grants, New Mexico on Wednesday, June 10th. Graveside services held Monday, June 15th at 11:00 am at the Santaquin, Utah City Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the Brown Family Mortuary, 66 South 300 East, Santaquin, Utah on Monday from 9:30 to 10:45 am. After the graveside service a reception for family and friends will be held at the Cultural Hall in the LDS Church in Eureka, Utah.
